Description

Sklarlite XD Spencer Stitch Scissors are primarily used for suture removal. These scissors have a small hook shaped tip on one blade that slides under sutures to slightly lift them before cutting for removal. This hook also holds the suture so it does not slip off the blade of the scissors prior to cutting. They are most commonly available in lengths of 3-1/2" and 4-1/2" and therefore typically have smaller, more delicate tips that are used for removing smaller sutures. They should not be used for cutting tissue. Sklarlite XD instruments are noticeably lighter and delicate than standard instruments which allow the surgeon the highest degree of precision with the least amount of fatigue. These instruments have been uniquely manufactured to be one of the lightest, most delicate general instruments available today. This product is straight with smooth, blunt/blunt tips and a length of 4-1/2 inches.

Frequently asked questions

Are these scissors designed to reduce hand fatigue?

Yes, these are specifically manufactured as part of the Sklarlite XD line, which is engineered to be exceptionally light and delicate. This reduced weight is intended to minimize operator fatigue and maximize precision during prolonged or delicate procedures.

What is the specific purpose of the hook on the tip?

The small hook-shaped tip on one blade is a critical design feature for suture removal. It is engineered to slide easily beneath sutures, allowing you to lift and secure them firmly, which prevents the suture from slipping off the blade before you make the cut.

Is this instrument suitable for cutting tissue?

No, these scissors are strictly intended for suture removal only. They should not be used for cutting biological tissue, as they are specifically calibrated for the precise, controlled removal of sutures.

Are these scissors built to last for repeated use?

Absolutely. These are professional, Sklar Premium Grade instruments constructed from high-quality stainless steel. They are fully reusable, provided they are properly cleaned and sterilized between uses.

Does this product contain natural rubber latex?

No, this instrument is not made with natural rubber latex, making it a safe choice for environments or patients where latex sensitivities are a concern.

Are these scissors considered compliant with government procurement standards?

Yes, the Sklarlite XD Spencer (Littauer) Suture Scissors are fully TAA compliant, meeting the necessary requirements for many government and institutional procurement contracts.

How do I ensure the best precision with these scissors?

The 4-1/2 inch length and the delicate, blunt/blunt tip configuration are designed specifically for working with smaller sutures. To achieve the best results, utilize the hook-tip to stabilize the suture before engaging the smooth working edge for a clean, controlled cut.

Do these come pre-sterilized?

These instruments are shipped non-sterile. They will need to undergo the appropriate sterilization process compliant with your facility’s protocols before their first use.

Is this a high-grade professional instrument?

Yes, it is manufactured to Sklar Premium Grade standards. This designation signifies that the instrument meets stringent quality benchmarks for durability, material composition, and functional performance in surgical settings.

What kind of tips do these scissors feature?

They feature a Blunt/Blunt (B/B) tip configuration. This design ensures safety during use while still allowing for the precise, delicate manipulation required for effective suture removal.
