Description

The Sklarlite XD Crile-Wood Needle Holder is used to hold and guide small to medium size needles and suture materials. The Crile-Wood Needle Holder has a gently tapered, blunt tip and is generally more delicate than the Mayo-Hegar but slightly less delicate than Webster, Halsey, or DeBakey needle holders. The ratcheted finger ring handle aids in securing needles for both continuous and interrupted closures. Sklarlite XD instruments are noticeably lighter and delicate than standard instruments which allow the surgeon the highest degree of precision with the least amount of fatigue. These instruments have been uniquely manufactured to be one of the lightest, most delicate general instruments available today. This product is straight with cross-serrated tips, narrow jaws, and an overall length of 6 inches.

Frequently asked questions

Does the lightweight construction actually reduce hand fatigue?

Yes, absolutely. The Sklarlite XD line is specifically engineered to be one of the lightest surgical instruments available. By reducing the overall weight significantly compared to standard instruments, it helps minimize hand strain and fatigue, especially during longer procedures that require sustained precision.

Is this needle holder suitable for delicate surgical tasks?

It is an excellent choice for delicate work. The Crile-Wood design features a gently tapered, blunt tip, positioning its level of delicacy right between Mayo-Hegar and Webster/Halsey/DeBakey holders. It is specifically designed for handling small to medium-sized needles and suture materials with high precision.

How reliable is the grip on the needle?

The instrument provides very secure needle control. The working jaws feature a cross-serrated design with an integrated groove, which creates high friction to prevent the needle from rotating or slipping during both continuous and interrupted closures.

Does it have a locking mechanism for stability?

Yes, it is equipped with a standard ratcheted finger ring handle. This mechanism ensures the needle is held firmly in place, allowing you to maintain a secure grip throughout the suturing process without needing to constantly apply pressure.

Is the material durable for repeated clinical use?

This needle holder is constructed from high-quality, professional-grade stainless steel. It is designed to be a durable, reusable instrument that withstands the rigors of standard surgical environments while maintaining its precision performance over time.

Is this instrument safe for use with patients having latex allergies?

Yes, the Sklarlite XD Crile-Wood Needle Holder is not made with natural rubber latex, making it safe for use in clinical settings where latex sensitivity is a consideration.

Does this needle holder require any special handling or care?

As a precision stainless steel surgical instrument, it should be cleaned and sterilized according to your facility’s standard protocols for reusable surgical tools. Because of its extra delicate design, it is recommended to handle it with care to maintain the alignment and sharpness of the cross-serrated tips.

Is this product compliant with strict manufacturing standards?

Yes, this product is TAA compliant. Furthermore, it is a factory-new, high-grade instrument backed by a lifetime warranty, ensuring you are investing in a reliable tool for your surgical kit.

How does the Crile-Wood tip compare to other styles?

The Crile-Wood pattern provides a balanced profile. With its narrow jaws and cross-serrated surface, it is less bulky than a Mayo-Hegar holder but slightly more substantial than the ultra-delicate Halsey or Webster styles, making it highly versatile for small to medium-sized suture work.

Is this instrument suitable for continuous suturing?

Absolutely. The combination of the ratcheted handle and the secure cross-serrated jaws makes this instrument ideal for both continuous and interrupted suturing techniques, providing the consistent grip necessary for smooth, flowing closure work.
