Description

Sklarlite Operating Scissors, also known as Surgical Scissors, are a versatile surgical instrument. With three available tip configurations (sharp/sharp, blunt/blunt, or sharp/blunt), varying curvatures and multiple lengths, these scissors are used for general, multipurpose cutting and dissecting. Sharp Operating Scissors cut tougher tissue and are frequently used for dissecting, whereas blunt Operating Scissors are more often used for cutting materials such as sutures, tubing, or gauze. Sklarlite instruments are a lighter version of standard Sklar instruments. A unique manufacturing process developed by Sklar shaves microns off standard and delicate pattern instruments while maintaining structural integrity and durability. This lightweight modification provides the surgeon with greater control and less fatigue. This product is curved with smooth, sharp/blunt tips, and a length of 5-1/2 inches.

Frequently asked questions

Does the extra light weight help with hand fatigue?

Yes. These scissors are part of the Sklarlite series, which uses a proprietary manufacturing process to remove excess material without sacrificing durability. This results in a significantly lighter instrument designed to help reduce surgeon fatigue during long procedures.

Are these scissors durable enough for repeated use?

Absolutely. Despite their lightweight design, they are constructed from high-quality stainless steel and are fully rated for repeated, long-term use.

Can I use these for different types of cutting?

Yes, the Sharp/Blunt (S/B) tip configuration makes these highly versatile:

Sharp tip: Ideal for dissecting or cutting through tougher tissue.

Blunt tip: Perfect for safe cutting of sutures, gauze, or dressing materials.

Is the stainless steel material high quality?

Yes, these are manufactured to Sklar Premium Grade standards. This ensures that you are receiving a professional-grade instrument that meets strict surgical quality requirements.

What does the curved on flat design offer?

The “curved on flat” profile is specifically engineered for precise dissection planes. This geometry allows the blades to follow tissue contours more naturally than straight scissors, improving control during delicate surgical tasks.

Are these scissors safe for patients with latex allergies?

Yes, this product is not made with natural rubber latex, making it safe for use in environments where latex sensitivities are a concern.

Are these tools compliant with government procurement standards?

Yes, these Sklarlite Operating Scissors are TAA Compliant, meeting the necessary requirements for federal government procurement.

Do I need to assemble the scissors before use?

No assembly is required. The instrument arrives as a single, ready-to-use piece, though it is supplied non-sterile and should be processed according to your facility’s protocols before its first surgical use.

How do these compare to standard operating scissors?

While they maintain the same structural integrity as standard instruments, the Sklarlite modification uses a precision process to shave off microns of material. This provides a superior weight-to-strength ratio, offering the same reliable performance while being noticeably lighter in the hand.

Is this instrument designed for long-term reliability?

Yes, the product is built to last and is backed by a lifetime warranty, reflecting the manufacturer’s confidence in the quality and craftsmanship of the stainless steel construction.
