Frequently asked questions

Why are the Sklarlite™ scissors preferred for long surgeries?

The Sklarlite™ line is specifically engineered as a lightweight modification of standard Mayo scissors. This extra-light design is created to help surgeons minimize hand fatigue, making them ideal for prolonged operating room sessions.

Are these scissors effective for surface tissue dissection?

Yes. This model features a straight blade configuration, which is the industry standard for:

  • Cutting surface tissue
  • Precise suture cutting
  • Versatile surgical tasks depending on physician preference.
How do the blunt/blunt tips enhance surgical safety?

The Blunt/Blunt (B/B) tip configuration is designed for safety. By removing sharp, pointed ends, these scissors allow for dissection tasks where piercing or puncturing the surrounding tissue is undesirable or risky.

Is the stainless steel durable enough for professional use?

Yes, these are manufactured to the Sklar Premium Grade standard. This ensures the instruments are:

  • Highly durable
  • Capable of withstanding repeated use
  • Reliable for consistent, professional surgical performance.
Are these instruments safe for patients with latex sensitivities?

Yes. This product is not made with natural rubber latex, making it suitable for use in environments where latex-free materials are required for patient safety.

Do they meet TAA compliance for institutional settings?

Yes, these scissors are TAA Compliant, meaning they meet the Trade Agreements Act requirements for procurement in government and various institutional medical settings.

How should these be prepared before initial use?

This instrument is supplied non-sterile. Before the first use and subsequent uses, it should be processed through your facility’s standard cleaning and sterilization protocols for reusable surgical instruments.

Can they be used for reliable suture cutting?

Absolutely. The smooth working edge style provides a clean and precise cutting action, making them highly effective for cutting sutures as well as performing delicate tissue dissection.

Is the material suitable for repeated sterilization cycles?

Yes. Constructed from high-quality stainless steel, these scissors are designed as reusable instruments, allowing them to endure the standard sterilization processes required in surgical environments.

Does the Sklar Premium grade ensure high manufacturing consistency?

Yes. Every Sklarlite™ instrument is manufactured to Sklar’s exacting standards. You can expect consistent quality, balance, and reliability, which are hallmarks of the Sklar Premium grade for professional medical instrumentation.
