Description

Sklarlite Littauer Stitch Scissors are primarily used for suture removal. These scissors have a small hook shaped tip on one blade that slides under sutures to slightly lift them before cutting for removal. This hook also holds the suture so it does not slip off the blade of the scissors prior to cutting. Littauer Stitch Scissors are most commonly available in the length of 5-1/2 inches, therefore, they typically have larger, less delicate tips than Spencer Stitch Scissors, and are used for removing larger sutures. They should not be used for cutting tissue. Sklarlite instruments are a lighter version of standard Sklar instruments. A unique manufacturing process developed by Sklar shaves microns off standard and delicate pattern instruments while maintaining structural integrity and durability. This lightweight modification provides the surgeon with greater control and less fatigue. This product is straight with smooth, blunt/blunt tips and a length of 5-1/2 inches.

Frequently asked questions

Does the lightweight design compromise the scissors' durability?

Not at all. While these scissors utilize the Sklarlite manufacturing process to shave microns off the weight, they are constructed from high-quality stainless steel consistent with Sklar Premium Grade standards. You get the benefit of reduced fatigue without sacrificing structural integrity.

What is the specific function of the unique hook tip?

The small, shaped hook tip is a critical design feature for suture removal. It allows you to:

  • Slide under sutures easily.
  • Lift the thread securely away from the skin.
  • Prevent slippage while making a clean, precise cut.
Are these scissors suitable for cutting living tissue?

No, these are specialized instruments intended exclusively for suture removal. They are specifically engineered for that task and should not be used for cutting living tissue.

Does the material contain natural rubber latex?

You can use these with confidence knowing they are not made with natural rubber latex, making them a safe choice for clinicians and patients with latex sensitivities.

How do these compare to Spencer Stitch Scissors?

Because these Littauer scissors measure 5-1/2 inches, they feature larger tips than the more delicate Spencer Stitch Scissors. This makes them particularly well-suited for removing larger, more substantial sutures.

Is this instrument professional-grade for clinical use?

Yes, these are Sklar Premium Grade instruments. They are designed for professionals who require high-quality, reliable tools for post-operative wound care and frequent suture extraction procedures.

Does this tool meet government procurement standards?

Yes, the Sklarlite Littauer Suture Scissors are TAA Compliant, meaning they meet the requirements of the Trade Agreements Act and are suitable for government and institutional procurement.

Are these scissors reusable or disposable?

These are high-quality, reusable surgical instruments. They are built for longevity and frequent use in a clinical setting.

How does the lightweight build help during long shifts?

Repetitive tasks can cause hand strain. The Sklarlite process is engineered specifically to reduce hand fatigue by significantly lowering the weight of the instrument, allowing for better control and comfort during extended use.

Are these scissors provided in a sterile package?

No, these instruments are provided as non-sterile. They should be processed and sterilized according to your facility’s standard protocols before their first use in any surgical or clinical procedure.
