Description

Sklarlite Littauer Cutting Forceps are a lighter version of the standard, non-ratcheted, plier handle instrument used primarily for cutting nail and bone. As nail nippers they are used for nail debridement. They may also be used to nip delicate bones found in the facial and nasal region, or small animal (mice) veterinary procedures. The short, sharp blades are able to produce enough force to cut through thick nail and small bone, but delicate enough not to cause trauma to surrounding tissue or organs. This is particularly helpful with nail debridement which should be completed in short, small sections to avoid damage to the hyponychium. This product has straight jaws with smooth edges and an overall length of 4-1/2 inches. The back, outside edge of the blades is straight and tapers to a point.

Is the stainless steel grade suitable for medical use?

Yes, these forceps are constructed from high-quality, professional-grade stainless steel. They are engineered to meet rigorous medical standards for durability, reusability, and long-term performance in clinical environments.

How do these forceps prevent trauma to nearby tissue?

The design prioritizes precision to safeguard soft tissues:

Plier-style handle: Offers exceptional tactile feedback, allowing the practitioner to apply only the exact force needed.

Calibrated blades: Specifically designed to cut thick materials like nails or small bones without causing secondary trauma to surrounding sensitive areas like the hyponychium.

Are these forceps safe for veterinary use?

Absolutely. These instruments are highly suitable for small animal veterinary clinics. Their compact size and precise cutting capability make them particularly effective for delicate procedures on small animals, including rodents.

Do I need to assemble the forceps before use?

No assembly is required. The forceps arrive as a single, ready-to-use piece. However, because they are provided non-sterile, you should put them through your facility’s standard sterilization processes before their first clinical use.

Is the handle easy to use for long procedures?

Are these forceps made with any latex?

No, the Sklarlite Littauer Cutting Forceps are not made with natural rubber latex, making them a safe choice for practitioners and patients with latex sensitivities.

What kind of cutting force can I expect?

Despite their lightweight frame, these forceps are engineered for powerful, controlled clipping. The plier-style handle is specifically built to deliver sufficient force to cut through thick nails or small bones while maintaining the surgical precision required to avoid damaging delicate surrounding tissue.

Can these be used for general surgical debridement?

Yes, they are highly versatile and commonly used in:

Clinical podiatry and dermatology: Excellent for precise nail debridement.

Surgical settings: Ideal for delicate procedures involving nasal regions or small facial bones.
