Description

Sklarlite Halsted Mosquito Forceps are used in multiple procedures as a hemostat for small blood vessels. The ratcheted finger ring handle provides a secure, locking grip to halt blood flow. They are not appropriate for use with large vessels or arteries. A toothed variation is available for grasping delicate tissue in skin grafting, biopsies, or ophthalmologic procedures. Mosquito forceps are known for their fine tips, and short, fully serrated jaws. They are available curved or straight. The standard length for this instrument is 5 inches, although Sklar does offer some with a length of 5-1/2 inches. Halsted Mosquito Forceps are very similar to Hartmann Mosquito Forceps, however, the Hartmann style is finer and more delicate. Sklarlite instruments are a lighter version of standard Sklar instruments. A unique manufacturing process developed by Sklar shaves microns off standard and delicate pattern instruments while maintaining structural integrity and durability. This lightweight modification provides the surgeon with greater control and less fatigue. This product is curved with serrated tips and a length of 5 inches.

Frequently asked questions

Does the Sklarlite process compromise the instrument's durability?

Not at all. The Sklarlite process is specifically engineered to reduce weight by removing microns of material while strictly preserving the structural integrity of the stainless steel. You receive a lighter tool that maintains the same high-performance durability you expect from Sklar instruments.

How does the extra-light weight benefit the surgeon during long procedures?

The lightweight design is specifically crafted to reduce hand and wrist fatigue during extended surgeries. By minimizing the weight of the instrument, surgeons gain better control and comfort, which is crucial for procedures requiring prolonged use.

Are the jaws designed to prevent tissue trauma?

Yes. The forceps feature fully serrated jaws designed for precision. They provide a secure, non-slip hold on blood vessels while remaining gentle enough to avoid damaging surrounding delicate tissue.

Is this forceps suitable for heavy-duty clamping?

These are specialized Halsted Mosquito forceps designed primarily for securing and ligating small blood vessels. They are perfect for delicate applications where precision is needed, rather than heavy-duty, high-force tasks.

How reliable is the locking mechanism during use?

The instrument is equipped with a high-quality ratchet system located at the finger rings. This mechanism allows you to lock the jaws securely in place at your desired tension, providing a reliable, hands-free grip for effective hemostasis.

Is the material safe for those with latex allergies?

Yes, these forceps are 100% latex-free. They are constructed from high-quality stainless steel and are not made with any natural rubber latex, ensuring safety for both the medical professional and the patient.

How does this model differ from the Hartmann Mosquito variant?

While similar in design, the Halsted Mosquito model is generally slightly more robust than the Hartmann variant. It strikes an excellent balance between fine-tip precision and sufficient structural strength for standard hemostatic procedures.

Is the instrument ready for immediate surgical use upon arrival?

This product is supplied non-sterile. Like all high-quality reusable surgical instruments, it must be properly cleaned, disinfected, and sterilized according to your facility’s protocols before it can be used in a surgical setting.

Does the finish offer any functional advantages?

The instrument features a satin or matte finish designed specifically to minimize glare under bright surgical lighting. This helps improve visibility in the operative field, allowing for more precise work.

Are these forceps compliant with government procurement standards?

Yes, these forceps are TAA (Trade Agreements Act) compliant, ensuring they meet the necessary standards for government and institutional procurement.
