Description

Sklarhone Metzenbaum-Nelson Bariatric Scissors are long dissecting scissors most commonly used in Bariatric Surgeries such as gastric bypass, gastric banding, and sleeve gastrectomy. They are also used in Nephrectomy, Cystectomy, and Prostatectomy procedures to dissect and cut tissue. Metzenbaum-Nelson scissors tend to be longer than standard Metzenbaum scissors which make them ideal for use in thoracic procedures as well. These scissors are not recommended for cutting sutures or drains. Sklarhone scissors feature one knife-like razor sharp edge and one standard scissor edge. This allows the user to make the sharp incisions of a knife with the cutting ability of scissors. Catching skin and pulls are minimized by the use of Sklarhone premium scissors. Sklarhone instruments are identified by dual black finger rings. This product is curved with serrated blades, blunt tips, and an overall length of 9 inches.

Frequently asked questions

Does the Super-Cut technology improve cutting precision?

Yes, the Sklarhone Super-Cut technology significantly improves performance by integrating two distinct edge types:

  • One razor-sharp edge: Provides knife-like sharpness for effortless, clean incisions.
  • One micro-serrated edge: Firmly grips the tissue, preventing slippage and pulling.
Together, these features allow for highly controlled and precise tissue dissection.
Are these scissors suitable for deep abdominal procedures?

Absolutely. These scissors are specifically designed for deep cavity access with an overall length of 9 inches. They are ideal for bariatric surgeries—such as gastric bypass or sleeve gastrectomy—as well as other demanding procedures like nephrectomies and cystectomies.

What is the benefit of the blunt tip design?

The blunt/blunt (B/B) tip configuration is purposefully designed to minimize accidental trauma to surrounding tissues. It allows surgeons to perform delicate dissection and blunt probing safely without the risk of unintentional punctures that might occur with sharp-pointed instruments.

How durable is the construction for long-term use?

These scissors are built to last, featuring Sklar Premium Grade stainless steel. This high-grade material is chosen for its superior strength and resilience in rigorous surgical environments, ensuring the instrument remains reliable throughout its service life.

Can I use these to cut through sutures?

No, these scissors are specifically engineered for delicate tissue dissection. They should not be used to cut sutures, drains, or other tough materials. Doing so can damage the specialized razor-sharp and micro-serrated edges, which are optimized solely for clean, soft tissue interaction.

Why are the finger rings colored black?

The signature dual black finger rings are a hallmark of the Sklarhone line. Beyond providing a professional aesthetic, they serve as a visual identifier for the specialized Super-Cut technology, ensuring staff can quickly distinguish these high-performance instruments from standard scissors in a busy operating room.

Is the material safe for patients with sensitivities?

Yes, these scissors are not made with natural rubber latex, making them a safe choice for surgical environments where latex sensitivities or allergies are a concern.

Does this instrument require sterilization before the first use?

Yes, these scissors are shipped non-sterile. They must be properly cleaned and sterilized according to your facility’s standard protocols for reusable surgical instruments before they are introduced into a sterile field.

Are these scissors considered ergonomic for long procedures?

The design focuses on stability and control. The 9-inch length provides the necessary leverage for deep access, while the high-quality stainless steel construction offers a balanced, professional feel, helping to reduce hand fatigue during meticulous, long-duration surgeries.

Does the instrument meet strict regulatory compliance standards?

Yes, this product is TAA (Trade Agreements Act) compliant, ensuring it meets the rigorous manufacturing and sourcing standards required for various clinical and government-supported healthcare facilities.
