Description

Sklarlite Sklarhone Metzenbaum-Nelson Bariatric Scissors are long dissecting scissors most commonly used in Bariatric Surgeries such as gastric bypass, gastric banding, and sleeve gastrectomy. They are also used in Nephrectomy, Cystectomy, and Prostatectomy procedures to dissect and cut tissue. Metzenbaum-Nelson scissors tend to be longer than standard Metzenbaum scissors which make them ideal for use in thoracic procedures as well. These scissors are not recommended for cutting sutures or drains. The Sklarlite Sklarhone combination provides the surgeon with a lightweight, precision instrument that allows the user to make the sharp incisions of a knife with the cutting ability of scissors, all while having greater control and experiencing less fatigue. This instrument is identified by dual black finger rings. This product is curved, has a smooth, razor edge with two blunt tips, and an overall length of 9 inches.

Frequently asked questions

Why do these scissors have two different edges?

This specialized configuration is designed to offer the best of both worlds:

  • Razor Edge: Provides the sharp, precise cutting ability of a knife for delicate tissue.
  • Standard Edge: Maintains the familiar control and stability of traditional surgical scissors.

This combination ensures versatile and efficient tissue dissection during complex procedures.

Is the "Sklarlite" design effective against surgeon fatigue?

Yes, the Sklarlite construction is specifically engineered to minimize hand fatigue. By utilizing a lighter build without sacrificing the integrity of the stainless steel, surgeons can maintain precision and control during extended bariatric or thoracic procedures.

Are these suitable for procedures beyond bariatric surgery?

While optimized for bariatric surgeries like gastric bypass and sleeve gastrectomy, these scissors are excellent for any procedure requiring a longer reach and delicate tissue handling, including:

  • Thoracic surgeries
  • Nephrectomy
  • Cystectomy
  • Prostatectomy
Are these crafted from premium-grade stainless steel?

Yes, these scissors are manufactured using Sklar Premium Grade stainless steel. This material is chosen for its durability, resistance to corrosion, and ability to hold a fine, professional edge throughout repeated use.

Do the black finger rings enhance operative control?

The dual black finger rings serve as a hallmark of the Sklarlite line, designed to provide a secure and ergonomic grip. They ensure that the instrument remains stable in the hand, allowing for enhanced operative control during intricate dissection.

Are the blunt tips ideal for precise dissection?

The Blunt/Blunt (B/B) tip configuration is specifically designed to facilitate safer tissue separation. This profile helps prevent accidental puncture of surrounding structures, making it highly effective for dissection in delicate or deep-cavity surgical environments.

Should these be used for cutting sutures?

No, these scissors are precision-engineered for tissue dissection. We do not recommend using them for cutting sutures, drains, or other heavy materials, as this can dull the specialized razor edge and compromise the instrument’s performance.

Can these instruments be safely sterilized and reused?

Yes, these are reusable surgical instruments. They are built to withstand standard professional sterilization procedures required in hospital and surgical center environments. They are shipped non-sterile and should be processed according to your facility’s protocols before first use.

Is the 9-inch length ideal for bariatric access?

Absolutely. The 9-inch length is a key feature that provides the necessary reach for deep-access procedures typical in bariatric surgery, such as gastric banding or sleeve gastrectomy, allowing for optimal maneuverability without compromising control.

Are these surgical scissors manufactured latex-free?

Yes, this product is not made with natural rubber latex. It is safe for use in clinical environments where latex sensitivity is a concern for staff or patients.
