Description

Sklarlite Sklarcut Operating Scissors, also known as Surgical Scissors, are a versatile surgical instrument. With three available tip configurations (sharp/sharp, blunt/blunt, or sharp/blunt), varying curvatures and multiple lengths, these scissors are used for general, multipurpose cutting and dissecting. Sharp Operating Scissors cut tougher tissue and are frequently used for dissecting, whereas blunt Operating Scissors are more often used for cutting materials such as sutures, tubing, or gauze. Sklarlite Sklarcut Scissors are a lighter version of the standard Sklar scissors that feature micro-serrations on one blade to assist in securely holding the tissue during cutting and minimize tissue from slipping so the most accurate and atraumatic cuts can be made. A unique manufacturing process developed by Sklar shaves microns off standard pattern instruments while maintaining structural integrity and durability. This lightweight modification provides the surgeon with greater control and less fatigue. Sklarcut scissors are identified by a single gold coated finger ring on the handle of the serrated blade. This product is straight with one micro-serrated edge blade, sharp/sharp tips, and an overall length of 5-1/2 inches.

Frequently asked questions

Does the lightweight design compromise durability?

Not at all. While the Sklarlite process reduces weight by shaving off microns, it is engineered to maintain full structural integrity. These scissors are manufactured to Sklar’s premium grade standards, ensuring they remain durable for professional, reusable use.

Why is one of the finger rings gold-colored?

The single gold-coated finger ring serves as a quick visual indicator to identify the handle connected to the micro-serrated blade. This allows the surgeon to instantly know which side of the instrument will provide the extra grip on tissue.

How does the micro-serrated blade improve performance?

The micro-serrations act as a gripping mechanism for tissue. By securely holding the tissue in place during the cut, the blades minimize slippage, resulting in more accurate, cleaner, and atraumatic incisions.

Are these scissors suitable for cutting tougher tissue?

Yes. The Sharp/Sharp tip configuration is specifically optimized for applications involving tougher tissue and general dissection tasks, providing the piercing power and precision required for those procedures.

What is the benefit of the Sklarlite manufacturing process?

The Sklarlite process is designed to reduce surgeon fatigue during long procedures. By creating a lighter instrument, it allows for enhanced control and finer handling, which is critical when performing delicate or prolonged surgeries.

Is this instrument safe for use with latex-sensitive patients?

Yes, these scissors are not made with natural rubber latex, making them a safe choice for clinical environments where latex sensitivity is a concern.

What steps are required before using these scissors?

As these instruments are provided non-sterile, they must undergo a proper sterilization process according to your facility’s protocols before being used in any clinical setting.

Is this a single-use or a reusable instrument?

These are high-quality, reusable surgical instruments. They are constructed from premium-grade stainless steel, designed to withstand repeated use and sterilization cycles.

Are these scissors compliant with federal standards?

Yes, these Sklarcut Sklarlite operating scissors are TAA (Trade Agreements Act) compliant, meeting the necessary requirements for procurement in various government and official healthcare systems.

How should I maintain these surgical scissors?

To ensure longevity, always follow standard medical grade cleaning and sterilization protocols for stainless steel surgical instruments. Since they are reusable, proper care after each use will help maintain the sharpness of the blades and the integrity of the micro-serrations.
