Description

Sklarcut Metzenbaum-Nelson Bariatric Scissors are long dissecting scissors most commonly used in Bariatric Surgeries such as gastric bypass, gastric banding, and sleeve gastrectomy. They are also used in Nephrectomy, Cystectomy, and Prostatectomy procedures to dissect and cut tissue. Metzenbaum-Nelson scissors tend to be longer than standard Metzenbaum scissors which make them ideal for use in thoracic procedures as well. These scissors are not recommended for cutting sutures or drains. Sklarcut scissors feature micro-serrations on one blade to reduce trauma when cutting both delicate and course tissue. These serrations assist in securely holding the tissue during cutting and minimizes tissue from slipping so the most accurate and clean cuts can be made. Sklarcut scissors are identified by a single gold coated finger ring on the handle of the serrated blade. This product is curved, has one micro-serrated blade, blunt tips, and an overall length of 9 inches.

Are these scissors suitable for deep surgical procedures?

Yes, these 9-inch Metzenbaum-Nelson scissors are specifically engineered for bariatric and thoracic procedures where extended reach is required. They are ideal for deep access surgeries, including:

  • Gastric bypass and sleeve gastrectomy
  • Nephrectomy
  • Cystectomy
  • Prostatectomy
How does the micro-serrated blade improve surgical precision?

The micro-serrated edge is designed to firmly grip tissue during the cutting process. By preventing slippage, this feature enables highly accurate, low-trauma dissection, making it safer for both delicate and dense tissues.

What is the benefit of the gold-coated finger ring?

The single gold-coated finger ring serves as a quick visual indicator to identify the handle connected to the micro-serrated blade. This allows the surgeon to immediately orient the scissors correctly for the desired cutting effect during intense procedures.

Can these scissors be used to cut surgical sutures?

No, these scissors are strictly intended for tissue dissection and are explicitly not recommended for cutting sutures, drains, or other heavy materials to maintain the integrity of the blade edges.

What level of durability can I expect from these instruments?

These scissors are part of the Sklar Premium Grade line. They are manufactured from high-quality stainless steel, ensuring the durability and high performance required for repeated surgical use.

Is the material safe for those with latex sensitivities?

What is the configuration of the scissor tips?

The scissors feature a Blunt/Blunt (B/B) tip configuration. This design is optimized for safe, precise tissue separation and dissection without the risk of accidental puncture caused by sharp, pointed tips.

Do these scissors require any special assembly?

No, the scissors arrive as a fully assembled, ready-to-use instrument. Please note that they are supplied non-sterile and must be processed according to your facility’s sterilization protocols before their first use.
