Frequently asked questions

Is this instrument built for heavy-duty surgical use?

Yes, it is constructed from high-grade stainless steel. This ensures it is a robust, reusable instrument specifically designed to withstand the rigorous demands of orthopedic procedures, including debulking and scraping fibrous tissue.

How does the double-ended design improve surgical workflow?

The double-ended configuration allows you to perform multiple tasks without switching instruments. It features:

  • Oval scoop (5mm x 10mm): Ideal for broader tissue removal.
  • Round scoop (5mm diameter): Perfect for precise, focused scraping.
  • Opposing faces: Tips face opposite directions, allowing for greater maneuverability during operation.
Is the handle comfortable to hold during long procedures?

Yes, it features an ergonomic, flat, and smooth handle (approximately 10mm wide) that provides a secure grip. The design tapers gradually toward the working ends to help maintain control and precision during delicate orthopedic scraping tasks.

Does this instrument contain any latex?

No, this Volkmann Bone Curette is completely latex-free. It is manufactured without natural rubber latex, making it a safe choice for surgical environments and for professionals or patients with specific sensitivities.

Are the working edges sharp enough for effective removal?

Absolutely. Both the oval and round scoop ends are engineered with sharp working edges. This ensures efficient performance when scraping and removing fibrous tissue, debris, or small portions of bone during orthopedic surgeries.

Does this tool meet professional healthcare standards?

Yes, this is a TAA compliant instrument. As a Sklar product, it adheres to high manufacturing standards, ensuring it is a reliable choice for operating rooms, surgical centers, and medical training facilities.

Is this instrument suitable for standard sterilization?

Yes, while it is shipped non-sterile, it is a durable, reusable surgical instrument made of stainless steel. It is designed to be compatible with standard surgical facility sterilization protocols required for re-use.

Does the design simplify the cleaning and sterilization process?

Its straightforward construction—a smooth, straight stainless steel profile with no hidden crevices—is designed to be easily cleaned and reprocessed following standard clinical protocols for orthopedic surgical instruments.

What specific types of tissue removal is this ideal for?

This curette is highly versatile for orthopedic needs, including:

  • Debulking: Removing fibrous tissue from bone surfaces.
  • Scraping: Clearing away debris from surgical sites.
  • Small Bone Removal: Precisely removing small portions of bone.
Is the 5-inch length ideal for precision work?

Yes, the 5-inch length is a standard profile for this type of manual orthopedic tool, providing an optimal balance between reach and control. Its slender, linear design is specifically tailored for tasks requiring high precision in confined surgical areas.
