Description

Sklar's Troutman-Katzin Corneal Transplant Scissors are primarily used for cutting corneal tissue in Keratoplasty procedures. They are very similar to Katzin Corneal Transplant Scissors but feature an additional locking mechanism on the handle that is able to keep the lower blade from moving. Like the Katzin scissors, the blades are different lengths, and available curved right or curved left to maximize the precisin of cutting. The double spring handle is also fenestrated. This product has small blades, strongly curved to the left. It also features a stop to avoid damage to both the tissue and the instrument due to excessive pressure while cutting. The overall length is 4 inches.

Frequently asked questions

Are these scissors designed for precision in Keratoplasty?

Yes, these scissors are specifically precision-engineered for corneal tissue cutting during Keratoplasty procedures. The design ensures the high level of accuracy required for such delicate ophthalmic surgeries.

Is there a mechanism to ensure stable cutting?

Absolutely. This model includes a specialized locking mechanism integrated into the handle. This feature is designed to keep the lower blade completely stationary during the procedure, providing the surgeon with maximum control and stability.

Do these scissors offer protection against tissue trauma?

Yes, they are equipped with a built-in stop mechanism. This feature limits the closure travel of the blades, which effectively prevents both damage to delicate ocular tissue and excessive pressure that could harm the instrument itself.

Are these durable enough for repeated surgical use?

These instruments are constructed from high-quality stainless steel and are fully rated as reusable. They are built to withstand standard sterilization processes required for surgical tools.

Is the handle designed for better grip?

The handle features a double spring system and is fenestrated (incorporating cutouts). This design helps reduce weight and provides a more controlled, comfortable grip for the surgeon during intricate movements.

Are these scissors compliant with government procurement standards?

Yes, this instrument is TAA compliant, meeting the rigorous requirements necessary for United States government procurement standards.

Do these come ready for immediate surgical use?

The scissors are shipped non-sterile. Like most precision surgical instruments, they must be cleaned and sterilized according to your facility’s protocols before their first use.

Is the blade configuration optimized for left-side access?

Yes, the blades are uniquely configured with a strong curve oriented to the left. This specific curvature is essential for accessing and cutting curved biological surfaces, such as the cornea, from the left side.

Are these made with natural rubber latex?

No, these scissors are latex-free and are not made with any natural rubber latex, making them suitable for use in environments where latex sensitivities are a concern.

What is the overall length of this instrument?

These Troutman-Katzin scissors measure 4 inches in length, which provides a compact and manageable profile for the precise, fine-motor requirements of ophthalmic surgery.
