Description

Sklar's Weitlaner Retractor is a self-retaining, finger ring retractor with a cam ratchet lock used for holding back tissue and exposing a surgical site. It has curved shanks that lead to blades that have between two and six, sharp or blunt, outward curving prongs. The prongs interdigitate when the instrument is closed. The Weitlaner retractor is a popular instrument, most commonly used in basic plastic surgery, large bone and joint procedures, and mastoid surgeries. It is also useful with small, deep incisions and soft tissue dissection at a superficial level. This product has 2x3 blunt prongs and a length of 6-1/2 inches.

Frequently asked questions

Does the titanium material offer better durability than steel?

Yes. This retractor is constructed from high-grade titanium, which provides superior advantages for surgical environments:

  • Enhanced Durability: Exceptional strength-to-weight ratio.
  • Corrosion Resistance: Highly resistant to the harsh, repeated cycles of medical sterilization.
  • Biocompatibility: Titanium is an excellent, inert material for surgical use.
How does the cam ratchet lock assist during surgery?

The integrated cam ratchet lock is a key feature designed to hold the retractor in a fixed, open position. This allows the instrument to maintain consistent, self-retaining tissue exposure, freeing up the surgeon to perform tasks without needing to manually hold the retractor in place.

Are the prongs safe for delicate soft tissue work?

Absolutely. This model features 3x4 blunt, outward-curving prongs. Because the prongs are blunt rather than sharp, they are specifically engineered for procedures where minimizing trauma to soft tissue is critical, such as in plastic surgery or superficial dissections.

Is this retractor suitable for deep surgical sites?

At 5-1/2 inches in length, this instrument is designed for precision. It is highly effective for:

  • Small, deep incisions
  • Superficial soft tissue dissection
  • Mastoid surgeries
  • Focused bone and joint procedures
Can I trust the craftsmanship of this instrument?

Yes, this is a Sklar Premium grade instrument. Sklar is a well-established name in surgical instrumentation, and this specific tool is manufactured to meet rigorous quality standards for clinical performance and precision.

Is the material safe for patients with latex allergies?

Yes, this instrument is completely free from natural rubber latex, making it a safe choice for use in surgical settings where latex sensitivity is a concern for patients or staff.

Does the interdigitation of the prongs improve stability?

Yes. The prongs are designed to interdigitate upon closure. This interlocking configuration ensures that when the retractor is set with the cam ratchet, the teeth remain securely positioned, providing stable and predictable tissue retraction throughout the procedure.

Is this a reusable instrument?

Yes, it is designed for repeated use. Its durable titanium construction is intended to withstand the rigors of standard medical cleaning and autoclave sterilization processes, maintaining its integrity over time.
