Frequently asked questions

Does this needle holder provide a secure grip?

Yes, it is designed for maximum precision. The jaws are equipped with Tungsten Carbide (TC) inserts, which offer superior resistance to wear and abrasion, ensuring a firm and reliable grip on fine suture needles during delicate procedures.

Is the design comfortable for long procedures?

Absolutely. It features an ergonomic, semi-cylindrical handle design with a texturized grip, specifically engineered to provide optimal comfort and control during sustained microsurgical tasks.

Why is the Tungsten Carbide inlay important?

Tungsten Carbide is a premium material choice that significantly enhances the instrument’s longevity. It provides:

  • Superior durability: Increased resistance to wear and tear over repeated uses.
  • Enhanced gripping power: Maintains texture for a more secure hold on needles compared to standard stainless steel.
Does this model come with a locking mechanism?

No, this specific model is designed without a catch (locking mechanism). This allows for continuous, smooth movement and fluid, uninterrupted needle manipulation, which is often preferred in specific microsurgical environments.

What kind of suture needles is this designed for?

The instrument features a fine 0.3mm micro profile on the jaws, making it ideal for the precision handling and passage of very fine suture materials used in microsurgery, ophthalmology, or specialized soft tissue repairs.

How durable is the construction of this instrument?

This needle holder is constructed from high-quality stainless steel and meets Sklar Premium grade standards. The combination of stainless steel architecture and Tungsten Carbide inserts ensures it is built to withstand the demands of professional, repeated surgical use.

Is this instrument safe for use with latex allergies?

Yes, this product is not made with natural rubber latex, making it a safe choice for surgical environments where latex-free instruments are required.

Does this needle holder meet government procurement standards?

Yes, this instrument is TAA (Trade Agreements Act) compliant, meaning it meets the necessary regulatory requirements for government procurement and use in federal facilities.

How does the double leaf spring affect usability?

The double leaf spring thumb handle is designed to provide smooth, consistent tension. This mechanism helps the surgeon maintain precise control without the need for a locking catch, allowing for effortless opening and closing of the jaws.

Is this a reusable surgical instrument?

Yes, it is designed for repeated, professional use. It is supplied non-sterile, meaning it should be cleaned and sterilized according to your facility’s standard protocols before its first use and between subsequent procedures.
