Frequently asked questions

Does this needle holder provide a secure grip on fine sutures?

Yes, this instrument features Tungsten Carbide (TC) inserts in the jaws. These inserts are engineered to provide an extremely secure grip on fine needles while offering increased resistance to wear over time.

Is the design suitable for long microsurgical procedures?

Absolutely. The instrument is designed with an ergonomic handle featuring semi-cylindrical, texturized grips. This design is specifically created to provide optimal comfort and control, reducing hand fatigue during extended operative sessions.

Why is there no locking catch on this model?

The absence of a locking catch is an intentional design choice for microsurgery. It allows for immediate release and provides the surgeon with fine, manual, and continuous control over the clamping force, rather than relying on a fixed, locked position.

How precise are the jaws on this Toledo needle holder?

The jaws are designed for high-level precision, featuring a very fine 0.3mm micro profile. This profile, combined with the straight, cross-serrated surface, makes it ideal for handling delicate needles in tiny surgical sites.

Is this instrument considered high-quality or professional grade?

Yes, this needle holder is part of the Sklar Premium or Grade line. This designation indicates that the product adheres to high manufacturing standards, ensuring reliability and precision for demanding clinical environments.

Can this needle holder be sterilized for repeated use?

Yes, it is a reusable instrument constructed from high-quality stainless steel. It is designed to withstand repeated cycles of sterilization, making it a durable investment for any surgical facility.

Is this product made with materials that might trigger latex allergies?

No, this instrument is not made with natural rubber latex. It is constructed from stainless steel and Tungsten Carbide, making it safe for use in clinical settings where latex sensitivity is a concern.

Is this specific model compliant with government standards?

Yes, this product is TAA Compliant. This confirms that the instrument meets the necessary regulatory standards required for procurement.

What is the benefit of the straight configuration?

The straight configuration is specifically engineered for procedures that require a direct line of approach. This allows for precise, unobstructed access in applications where curvature is not necessary or could hinder the procedure.

Does this instrument require any special maintenance?

As a precision stainless steel surgical instrument, it requires standard professional care, including:

  • Proper cleaning and sterilization before and after each use.
  • Using appropriate cleaning agents compatible with stainless steel to maintain the finish.
  • Inspection of the Tungsten Carbide inserts periodically to ensure the grip remains optimal.
