Description

The Sklar TC Mayo-Hegar Needle Holder is a ratcheted, finger ring instrument available in a wide range of lengths, and used in multiple types of surgical procedures. Due to it's versatility, it is one of the most commonly used surgical tools for both human and animal procdures, typically with larger, heavier suture needles because of it's wide jaws. Shorter lengths of the instrument may be used in oral, gynecological, or dermatological procedures, as well as with small animals. Larger lengths may be used for deep tissue suturing such as in bariatric procedures, or in large animal procedures. Sklar permanently bonds the tungsten carbide inserts to the jaws of the instrument which maximizes control and precision. This product is straight with cross-serrated jaws, featuring a central groove where the needle can be held, and a length of 10-1/2 inches. This product may also be known as a Masson needleholder.

Frequently asked questions

What benefits do the tungsten carbide inserts provide?

The tungsten carbide inserts are permanently bonded into the jaws, which significantly enhances the instrument’s longevity and performance. Key benefits include: Maximum precision when manipulating needles, superior grip control for demanding surgical tasks, and reduced wear on the holding edge over repeated use.

Which types of procedures is this holder best for?

This 10-1/2” model is highly versatile, specifically engineered for tasks requiring a strong grip on heavy suture needles. It is excellent for deep tissue suturing, bariatric surgery, and large animal procedures.

How do the jaws ensure a secure grip?

The jaws are specifically designed with a cross-serrated texture. This pattern creates a highly reliable surface area that prevents needle slippage, providing the stability needed for heavy-duty surgical requirements.

Does the handle design allow for secure locking?

Yes, the instrument features a built-in ratchet mechanism. This allows the surgeon to lock the needle holder in place securely once the needle is gripped, ensuring that the needle does not shift during intricate or prolonged procedures.

Why is the CensiTrac marking useful?

The CensiTrac marking is a crucial feature for professional surgical environments, providing enhanced inventory management and reliable traceability of the instrument through its entire lifecycle.

Is this instrument suitable for frequent reuse?

Absolutely. It is manufactured from high-grade, durable stainless steel designed specifically for reusable applications. Its professional construction ensures it stands up to the rigorous demands of repeated sterilization and surgical use.

Is this needle holder latex-free?

Yes, this product is not made with natural rubber latex, making it a safe choice for environments where latex sensitivity is a concern for staff or patients.

Does this instrument meet professional manufacturing standards?

Yes, this Sklar needle holder is TAA compliant. It is built to professional-grade standards suitable for both human and veterinary surgical environments.

Are the gold finger rings just for aesthetics?

The dual gold finger rings serve a functional purpose in the operating room. They provide a high-contrast visual indicator, making the instrument easy to identify and distinguish from other tools on a crowded surgical tray, while also ensuring comfortable and ergonomic handling.

Is this length appropriate for deep tissue work?

The 10-1/2 inch length is specifically chosen for reach and leverage. This length provides the necessary extension for accessing deeper surgical sites, making it significantly more effective than shorter tools for deep tissue procedures or large-scale surgical work.
