Description

Sklar's Jacobson Tungsten Carbide Microvascular Needle Holder is primarily used for suturing in microvascular and cardiovascular procedures. It may also be known as a Jacobson-Castroviejo Needle Holder. The finely cross-serrated, tapered jaws are able to securely hold very fine sutures. Serrations on TC instruments are designed to stay sharp for a significantly longer period of time than standard instruments. Sklar also permanently bonds tungsten carbide inserts to the instrument, which maximizes control and precision. This product is curved with micro-profile, cross-serrated jaws and an overall length of 8-1/4 inches. There is no locking mechanism.

Frequently asked questions

Does this tool offer high-precision control for micro-sutures?

Yes, this instrument is specifically engineered for microvascular and cardiovascular procedures. It features:

  • Finely cross-serrated, tapered jaws that provide a superior, secure grip on very fine suture materials.
  • A thumb-style handle design that offers excellent tactile feedback for delicate, precise maneuvers.
Are the tungsten carbide inserts permanently bonded?

Yes, the high-grade tungsten carbide inserts are permanently bonded to the stainless steel jaws. This construction ensures that the tips maintain their sharp, functional integrity significantly longer than standard, non-reinforced surgical instruments.

Is the stainless steel used for this instrument high-grade?

Absolutely. This needle holder belongs to the Sklar Premium grade line, constructed from high-grade, durable stainless steel designed to withstand the rigors of frequent clinical use.

Does the yellow handle coating serve a specific purpose?

Yes, the vibrant yellow-coated handle ends are a functional design choice. They serve as a quick, reliable visual identification marker to indicate that the instrument is equipped with high-grade tungsten carbide inserts.

Can I use this for non-locking, delicate surgical tasks?

This instrument is designed without a locking mechanism, making it ideal for procedures requiring fluid, continuous motion. It provides the unrestricted, precise control necessary for sensitive microsurgical work.

Is the material safe for patients with latex allergies?

Yes, the Sklar TC Jacobson Needle Holder is not made with natural rubber latex, making it a safe choice for clinical environments where latex sensitivity is a concern.

How should this instrument be handled for sterilization?

As a reusable surgical instrument, it is designed to be processed through standard clinical sterilization cycles. Because it arrives in a non-sterile state, it must be thoroughly cleaned and sterilized according to your facility’s protocols before its first use.

Is this instrument compliant with trade agreement regulations?

Yes, this needle holder is TAA compliant, meeting the requirements for government and institutional procurement standards.

What is the expected lifespan of this needle holder?

This instrument is built to be a long-term investment. Due to its premium construction and the inclusion of durable tungsten carbide, it is backed by a lifetime warranty, reflecting its exceptional build quality and longevity.

Is the curved design suitable for deep surgical access?

The curved, tapered profile is intentionally designed for cardiovascular and microvascular applications where navigating around delicate anatomical structures is required. This curvature allows for better visibility and access during intricate suturing tasks.
