Description

Sklar's Jacobson Tungsten Carbide Microvascular Needle Holder is primarily used for suturing in microvascular and cardiovascular procedures. It may also be known as a Jacobson-Castroviejo Needle Holder. The finely cross-serrated, tapered jaws are able to securely hold very fine sutures. Serrations on TC instruments are designed to stay sharp for a significantly longer period of time than standard instruments. Sklar also permanently bonds tungsten carbide inserts to the instrument, which maximizes control and precision. This product is curved with micro-profile, cross-serrated jaws and an overall length of 9-1/4 inches. It also features a locking mechanism.

Frequently asked questions

Are the tips made of durable material?

Yes, these feature permanently bonded tungsten carbide inserts. This material is chosen for its superior hardness, which ensures that the jaws maintain their grip and sharpness significantly longer than standard stainless steel instruments.

Is this instrument suitable for microvascular procedures?

Absolutely. It is specifically engineered for microvascular and cardiovascular surgery. The tapered, finely cross-serrated jaws are designed to securely hold and manipulate the very fine sutures required in these delicate environments.

Does this holder offer a secure grip on fine needles?

Yes. The instrument utilizes finely cross-serrated, tapered jaws. This configuration is purpose-built to provide a precise, high-friction grip on delicate needles, allowing for better control during complex suturing tasks.

Is this instrument considered a high-grade tool?

Yes, it is classified as a Sklar Premium grade instrument. This designation reflects its high-quality stainless steel construction and the precision engineering of the tungsten carbide inserts, making it a reliable choice for professional surgical use.

How does the design enhance surgical precision?

Precision is maximized through several design choices:

  • Tapered jaw profile: Allows for better access in tight surgical fields.
  • Thumb-style handle: Offers natural, intuitive control.
  • Locking mechanism: Ensures the suture is held securely in place without constant manual pressure.
Can this instrument be reused for multiple surgeries?

Yes, this is a reusable surgical instrument. While it is shipped non-sterile, it is designed for repeated use, provided it is cleaned and sterilized according to standard medical protocols for surgical instruments.

Is this needle holder safe for latex-sensitive environments?

Yes, the product is not made with natural rubber latex. It is crafted entirely from surgical-grade stainless steel and tungsten carbide, making it suitable for facilities that require latex-free equipment.

What is the length of this needle holder?

The instrument has a length of 9-1/4 inches. This length is well-suited for providing optimal leverage and reach during cardiovascular and microvascular procedures.

How long do the serrations stay sharp?

The tungsten carbide inserts are formulated to retain their sharpness for a substantially longer duration than standard stainless steel needle holders. This durability reduces the frequency of instrument maintenance and replacement.

Is this effectively a Jacobson-Castroviejo style needle holder?

Yes, it is often referenced as a Jacobson-Castroviejo Needle Holder. It combines the recognized precision of this style with Sklar’s high-quality manufacturing standards, ensuring reliability for delicate suturing.
