Description

The SklarSpec Disposable Graves Vaginal Speculum is a clear plastic speculum used for performing pelvic examinations, Pap Smears, and examining the cervix. It provides 360 degree visibility and one hand operation for the user and greatly reduces temperature shock commonly experienced by patients when a metal speculum is used. It is a double blade duckbill speculum inserted with the blades closed. The blades are then opened by an external lever. The Graves Speculum has wider blades than the Pederson Speculum and the practitioner can best determine which type and size speculum is most appropriate for the patient. Because they are disposable, SklarSpec instruments reduce the likelihood of cross-contamination and eliminate sterilization and reprocessing time and costs. These instruments are available sterile or non-sterile, and in multiple sizes. SklarSpec instruments are available in bulk quantities.

Frequently asked questions

Does the plastic material prevent patient discomfort?

Yes, the plastic construction is specifically chosen to significantly reduce the ‘temperature shock’ often associated with cold metal instruments. This ensures a much more comfortable and pleasant experience for the patient during exams.

Is this speculum safe for patients with latex allergies?

Yes, the SklarSpec speculum is completely latex-free and is not manufactured using natural rubber latex, making it a safe choice for sensitive patients.

How does the design improve clinical efficiency?

By choosing a disposable, sterile instrument, practitioners can:

  • Eliminate sterilization costs and lengthy reprocessing downtime.
  • Improve office workflow by having a ready-to-use tool for every procedure.
  • Mitigate cross-contamination risks effectively.
Does the transparent material offer better visibility?

The speculum is crafted from high-clarity clear plastic, providing 360-degree visibility. This allows the practitioner to maintain an unobstructed view of the area of interest throughout the examination.

Is the speculum easy to operate with one hand?

Absolutely. The device is engineered for convenient one-handed operation, allowing the clinician to easily adjust the blades while maintaining focus on the patient and the procedure.

Why is the 'Graves' style preferred for examinations?

The Graves style is defined by its wider blade profile, which is specifically designed to provide superior anatomical access compared to narrower alternatives. This makes it a highly versatile and trusted choice for a variety of clinical needs.

Are these specula pre-sterilized for immediate use?

Yes, each unit is provided sterile and ready for immediate clinical application, ensuring that practitioners can proceed with confidence during screenings and pelvic exams.

What is the standard quantity provided in this case?

Each case contains 100 individual, disposable specula, providing a reliable supply for busy clinical environments.

How does the adjustment mechanism function?

The instrument utilizes an integrated external lever system. This allows the practitioner to insert the duckbill blades in a closed position and precisely control the expansion for optimal access.

Is the material durable for standard procedures?

Yes, these are professional-grade, factory-new medical instruments. They are built to provide reliable, consistent performance during standard pelvic examinations, Pap smears, and cervical screenings.
