Description

Sklar Spencer Wells Forceps are hemostatic forceps used to control blood flow in vessels. They have short, serrated jaws, which can completely seal small blood vessels. On larger vessels they may be used to temporarily control the blood flow, and left to be sutured later. The handles of the Spencer Wells forceps were designed to be notably closer together in an effort to eliminate tangling of arteries within them. Ratcheted versions typically only have 1 or 2 locks. They are available with either curved or straight jaws in a number of lengths. This product is curved and has an overall length of 6 inches.

Frequently asked questions

Are these forceps suitable for repeated clinical use?

Yes, these forceps are reusable and designed for high-frequency clinical environments. They are crafted from high-quality stainless steel, ensuring they can withstand repeated sterilization and use over time.

Do these forceps prevent artery entanglement during surgery?

Yes, they feature an intelligent handle design where the finger rings are positioned closer together. This specific configuration helps prevent the accidental catching or tangling of arteries and surrounding tissues during delicate procedures.

Can these be used to control blood flow in larger vessels?

While primarily designed to seal small vessels, these forceps serve as an effective temporary clamping tool for larger vessels, providing necessary control until the surgical site can be properly sutured.

Are these instruments safe for patients with latex allergies?

Yes, the Sklar Spencer Wells Forceps are not made with natural rubber latex, making them a safe choice for patients with latex sensitivities.

How secure is the grip on these forceps?

The forceps are engineered with serrated jaws that provide a high-friction surface. This design ensures a secure occlusion of vessels, allowing for precise handling and reliable performance.

Is the locking mechanism reliable during procedures?

The instrument features a multi-step ratchet lock located near the finger grips. This allows the surgeon to lock the forceps at various tension levels, providing a steady and secure hold when clamping.

Are these forceps made to professional medical standards?

Absolutely. Sklar instruments are professional-grade and manufactured to meet strict clinical requirements. They are also TAA compliant, meeting standards for medical equipment quality.

What is the total length of these instruments?

This specific model (17-2660) measures 6 inches in length, providing an optimal balance of reach and precision for standard surgical tasks.

Does the curved design offer better surgical access?

Yes, the curved jaw design is specifically chosen to improve visibility and access to vessels, allowing the surgeon to reach areas more effectively compared to straight-jaw instruments.

Are these instruments sterile upon arrival?

These forceps are delivered in non-sterile condition. They must be properly cleaned and sterilized according to your facility’s protocols before being used in any surgical or clinical environment.
