Description

Sklar Spencer Stitch Scissors are primarily used for suture removal. These scissors have a small hook shaped tip on one blade that slides under sutures to slightly lift them before cutting for removal. This hook also holds the suture so it does not slip off the blade of the scissors prior to cutting. They are most commonly available in lengths of 3-1/2" and 4-1/2" and therefore typically have smaller, more delicate tips that are used for removing smaller sutures. They should not be used for cutting tissue. This product is straight with smooth, blunt/blunt tips and a length of 4-1/2 inches.

Frequently asked questions

Does the unique hook tip improve removal accuracy?

Yes, the specialized hook is designed to slide easily beneath the suture. This lifts the thread, securing it against the cutting edge, which prevents slippage and ensures a precise, clean cut every time.

Is durable, high-quality stainless steel used?

These are crafted from high-grade stainless steel. This material is chosen for its resilience during repeated sterilization cycles, its resistance to corrosion, and its structural integrity during frequent, precise surgical tasks.

Are these instruments safe for repeated reuse?

Absolutely. These are professional-grade, reusable instruments. Since they arrive non-sterile, they are perfect for facilities with established in-house reprocessing and sterilization protocols to maintain hygiene standards between uses.

Do the handles provide ergonomic control?

Yes, the scissors feature traditional finger ring handles. This design provides a stable, secure grip during intricate suture removal, enhancing precision and giving medical professionals the tactile feedback needed for delicate surgical follow-up.

Are these safe for latex-sensitive environments?

Yes. These instruments are explicitly marked as not made with natural rubber latex, making them a safe choice for surgical environments or for patients with known latex sensitivities.

Is the 4-1/2 inch size ideal for precision?

Yes, the 4-1/2 inch length is specifically optimized for handling smaller, finer sutures. This shorter profile allows for greater maneuverability and precise control, which is essential during delicate surgical follow-up procedures.

Are these also suitable for cutting tissue?

No, these are specifically designed for suture removal, not tissue cutting. The tips are blunt/blunt (B/B), which is a deliberate safety feature to prevent accidental injury to the patient while maneuvering the scissors near the skin or wound site.

Is this considered a professional-grade instrument?

Yes, these are professional-grade surgical instruments that are TAA compliant. This meets the standards required for use in various high-level medical facilities and specialized health settings.

Is sterilization required before first use?

Because these are delivered non-sterile, standard procedure sterilization is required before their first clinical use. This allows you to integrate them into your facility’s specific infection control and reprocessing workflow immediately upon arrival.

Are these optimized for specific suture removal?

Yes, the design focuses on suture removal efficiency. The combination of the smooth working edge and the lifting hook allows for swift, controlled removal, making them an excellent choice for medical environments that prioritize precision instrument handling.
