Description

Sklar Shortbent Suture Scissors are primarily used for suture removal. These scissors have a small hook shaped tip on one blade that slides under sutures to lift them slightly before cutting for removal. This hook also holds the suture so it does not slip off the blade of the scissors prior to cutting. Shortbent suture scissors are smaller than many standard suture scissors and they have delicate blades, ideal for removal of small sutures. They should not be used for cutting tissue. This product has straight shanks with smooth, curved blades, blunt/blunt tips and a length of 3-1/2 inches.

Frequently asked questions

Does the hook tip prevent suture slippage?

Yes, the unique hook-tipped blade is specifically engineered to slide beneath sutures, lifting them slightly to hold them securely against the opposing blade. This design prevents the suture from slipping, ensuring a clean and precise cut every time.

Is the stainless steel grade durable for repeated use?

Yes, these scissors are constructed from high-grade stainless steel, making them highly durable and perfectly suited for repeated use and frequent sterilization cycles in a clinical environment.

Are these suitable for cutting surgical tissue?

No, these scissors are exclusively intended for suture removal only. They should not be used for cutting tissue to maintain the integrity of the blades and ensure they perform their specialized function correctly.

Is this instrument safe for those with latex allergies?

Absolutely. These scissors are not made with natural rubber latex, making them a safe choice for surgical environments where latex-free instruments are required.

How should I handle these for precise cutting?

The scissors feature traditional ergonomic finger rings, providing a secure and comfortable grip that allows for the fine motor control necessary when removing small or delicate sutures.

Are these scissors considered TAA compliant?

Yes, the Sklar Shortbent Suture Scissors are TAA compliant, meeting the requirements necessary for governmental and institutional procurement.

Can these be sterilized after use?

Yes, as reusable instruments, they are designed to withstand standard sterilization processes. Please note that they are supplied non-sterile, so they will need to be processed according to your facility’s protocols before their first use.

What is the benefit of the blunt/blunt tip design?

The blunt/blunt (b/b) tip configuration is designed to prioritize safety during the suture removal process. By avoiding sharp points, the risk of accidental injury to the surrounding tissue is significantly minimized while the hook maintains its grip on the suture.

Why is the CensiTrac marking significant?

The CensiTrac marking indicates that these instruments are compatible with advanced instrument tracking systems. This allows for improved inventory management, usage tracking, and maintenance scheduling within surgical departments.

Is the blade design optimized for fine sutures?

Yes, these scissors feature delicate blades and a compact 3-1/2 inch frame, which makes them specifically optimized for working in smaller surgical fields and removing fine, meticulous sutures where standard scissors might be too bulky.
