Description

Sklar Shortbent Suture Scissors are primarily used for suture removal. These scissors have a small hook shaped tip on one blade that slides under sutures to lift them slightly before cutting for removal. This hook also holds the suture so it does not slip off the blade of the scissors prior to cutting. Shortbent suture scissors are smaller than many standard suture scissors and they have delicate blades, ideal for removal of small sutures. They should not be used for cutting tissue. This product has straight shanks with smooth, curved blades, blunt/blunt tips and a length of 3-1/2 inches.

Frequently asked questions

Are these scissors suitable for delicate suture removal?

Yes, these are specifically designed for precision. Their delicate construction and 3-1/2 inch size make them ideal for handling smaller sutures where control is paramount.

What is the purpose of the hook on the blade?

The integrated hook serves a critical safety function:

  • It slides comfortably beneath the suture.
  • It gently lifts the thread away from the skin tissue.
  • It secures the suture against the blade to prevent slipping before the cut.
Can I use these scissors to trim small tissue areas?

No, these are strictly intended for suture removal only. They are not designed for cutting or trimming tissue and should not be used for that purpose.

Are these surgical instruments durable for long-term use?

Absolutely. They are constructed from high-quality stainless steel, ensuring the durability required for repeated, rigorous clinical use.

Are these scissors considered latex-free?

Yes, these instruments are completely latex-free, containing no natural rubber latex components.

Are these scissors delivered sterile or non-sterile?

These scissors are supplied non-sterile. You will need to follow your facility’s standard sterilization protocols before the first use.

Is the stainless steel material high-grade?

Yes, Sklar uses high-quality stainless steel for their instruments, balancing corrosion resistance with the hardness needed to maintain the precision cutting edge.

How should I handle and care for these reusable scissors?

As a reusable surgical instrument, you should:

  • Clean thoroughly after each use.
  • Follow appropriate autoclave or chemical sterilization procedures for surgical-grade stainless steel.
  • Store in a dry, protected environment to preserve the precision edge.
Are these compliant with trade agreements?

Yes, the Sklar Shortbent Suture Scissors are TAA (Trade Agreements Act) Compliant, meeting the necessary standards for government and institutional procurement.

What is the advantage of the blunt tip configuration?

The blunt/blunt (B/B) tip design is a deliberate safety feature. It allows you to navigate near delicate patient skin without the risk of puncturing or accidental injury, while still providing the precision needed to lift sutures.
