Description

Sklar's Rumel thoracic forceps are are ratcheted finger ring hemostats used in cardiothroacic procedures. They have a partial serrated and smooth blade making it useful for griping arteries or passing tape around the arteries of the heart. Rumels are available in different jaw curvatures --slightly curved, curved, fully curved and angled. The Rumel have longer jaws --like the Sarot and Overholt Fino, but are half-serrated, unlike many other models (Gemini, Kantrowitz, Sarot).

Frequently asked questions

Are these forceps suitable for delicate cardiothoracic procedures?

Yes, absolutely. The Sklar Rumel Thoracic Forceps are specifically engineered for cardiothoracic surgery. Their specialized blade design—combining partial serration with a smooth section—is intentionally crafted to provide secure, precise handling of delicate arteries or for passing suture tape around cardiac structures without causing trauma.

Is high-grade material used in the construction?

Yes, these instruments are manufactured from high-quality, durable stainless steel. This material selection ensures:

  • Long-term reliability in demanding surgical environments.
  • Excellent resistance to corrosion during repeated sterilization cycles.
  • A robust build that supports long-term professional use.
Does the fully curved design offer surgical advantages?

The fully curved jaw configuration is a distinct feature that allows for specific access angles often required in complex thoracic cavity operations. This shape provides the surgeon with better visibility and reach when navigating around anatomy in tighter spaces.

Are these forceps designed to be reused safely?

Yes, they are designed specifically as a reusable instrument. They are built to withstand multiple sterilization cycles, offering a more sustainable and cost-effective solution compared to single-use disposable alternatives.

Do these forceps include a secure locking mechanism?

Yes, the instrument features a reliable ratcheted mechanism combined with finger ring handles. This design allows the surgeon to securely lock the forceps in place once the desired tension or grip is achieved, ensuring consistent control throughout the procedure.

Are these forceps free of natural rubber latex?

Yes, the Sklar Rumel Thoracic Forceps are not made with natural rubber latex. This makes them a safe choice for surgical environments where latex sensitivities are a concern for both patients and staff.

Does the blunt tip design add extra precision?

The blunt tip configuration is intentional, designed to facilitate safe manipulation of tissues and vessels. It provides a non-penetrating contact point, which is essential when working near delicate cardiac structures where precision is paramount.

Can I rely on these instruments for long-term practice?

Absolutely. These forceps are backed by a lifetime warranty, which reflects the manufacturer’s confidence in the product’s superior engineering, manufacturing standards, and long-term durability in professional settings.

Are these instruments compliant with government standards?

Yes, the Sklar Rumel Thoracic Forceps are TAA (Trade Agreements Act) compliant. This confirms that the product meets the necessary manufacturing and sourcing requirements for government-related procurement and high-standard clinical facilities.

What is the best way to handle these forceps during surgery?

The instrument is designed for precise manual control using the finger ring handles. The 9-inch length provides an optimal balance of leverage and reach. Surgeons typically utilize the partially serrated section for a non-slip grip on tissues, while utilizing the smooth section when passing tape or delicate maneuvers that require a gentler touch.
