Description

Sklar's Rumel thoracic forceps are are ratcheted finger ring hemostats used in cardiothroacic procedures. They have a partial serrated and smooth blade making it useful for griping arteries or passing tape around the arteries of the heart. Rumels are available in different jaw curvatures --slightly curved, curved, fully curved and angled. The Rumel have longer jaws --like the Sarot and Overholt Fino, but are half-serrated, unlike many other models (Gemini, Kantrowitz, Sarot).

Frequently asked questions

Is this instrument made of durable, high-quality material?

Yes, these forceps are constructed from premium stainless steel. This material choice ensures the instrument offers excellent longevity and maintains its structural integrity, even when subjected to the rigors of repeated sterilization and demanding surgical environments.

What are the benefits of the hybrid blade design?

The hybrid blade features a partial serrated and smooth surface. This specific combination provides:

  • Serrated Section: Offers a secure, non-slip grip for reliable arterial handling.
  • Smooth Section: Allows for gentle manipulation and passing of vascular tapes without damaging delicate vessel walls.
Why are these forceps preferred for cardiothoracic procedures?

These instruments are engineered specifically for the precision required in cardiothoracic surgery. The 9-inch length and angled curvature are purpose-built to provide the necessary reach and maneuverability for operating around the heart and major blood vessels.

How should I prepare these forceps for surgical use?

These forceps arrive non-sterile. As a reusable high-precision instrument, they must undergo your facility’s standard sterilization protocols before use to ensure patient safety and compliance with clinical hygiene requirements.

Does the handle design ensure reliable, secure clamping?

Absolutely. The forceps utilize traditional finger ring handles coupled with a high-performance ratcheting mechanism. This allows the surgeon to lock the instrument securely in place, maintaining constant pressure during sensitive procedures.

Is this product safe for patients with latex sensitivities?

Yes, the product is completely latex-free. It is not made with natural rubber latex, ensuring it is a safe option for patients with latex allergies or sensitivities.

Can I rely on this instrument for long-term clinical use?

Yes. Sklar instruments are designed for durability and reusability. By using high-grade stainless steel and professional-grade construction, these forceps are built to withstand the demands of a busy surgical setting over the long term.

Are these forceps effective for passing tape around cardiac arteries?

They are highly effective for this task. The smooth portion of the blade is specifically designed to minimize trauma to delicate tissues, allowing for the safe and controlled passing of vascular tapes or occlusion loops near cardiac structures.

Does the angled curvature improve surgical access?

The angled curvature of the 9-inch jaw assembly is essential for providing better visibility and access in complex surgical fields. It allows the surgeon to navigate around anatomical obstructions more easily than would be possible with straight forceps.

Does this instrument meet professional compliance standards?

Yes, these Sklar Rumel Thoracic Forceps are TAA compliant. This makes them a reliable choice for government facilities or institutions that require adherence to Trade Agreements Act standards for procurement.
