Description

Sklar Rochester-Oschner Forceps are a heavy instrument designed to aggressively grasp medium to heavy tissue or occlude heavy, dense vessels. They have horizontal serrations the entire length of the jaw as well as 1 X 2 teeth at the tip. The combination of full serrations plus teeth ensure a firm grip on the tissue or vessel being held. Rochester-Oschner Forceps are available either curved or straight and in multiple lengths. These forceps are sometimes referred to as simply Oschner Forceps, however, Rochester-Oschner Forceps are actually heavier than standard Oschner Forceps. This product is straight with full, horizontally serrated jaws, 1 X 2 teeth, and a length of 6-1/4 inches.

Frequently asked questions

Are these forceps suitable for handling dense tissue?

Yes, absolutely. These are specifically engineered as a heavy-duty surgical instrument. Unlike standard models, the Rochester-Ochsner design is built for aggressive grasping, making them ideal for manipulating medium to heavy tissue or occluding dense vessels where a standard grip might be insufficient.

How secure is the grip on these forceps?

The grip is exceptionally secure thanks to a dual-action design. It combines two critical features:

  • Full horizontal serrations: Run along the entire length of the jaw for general stability.
  • 1x2 teeth at the tip: Provide an aggressive, interlocking anchor point for maximum retention and precision.
Can these instruments withstand repeated sterilization?

Yes, they are designed for longevity. Manufactured from high-quality stainless steel, these forceps are fully reusable and constructed to withstand repeated sterilization cycles, ensuring they remain a reliable part of your surgical toolkit for years.

Does the instrument feature a locking mechanism?

Yes, the handle includes a traditional ratchet locking mechanism. This allows you to securely lock the forceps in place once the desired tension is achieved, providing hands-free stability during surgical procedures.

Is this product safe for patients with latex allergies?

Yes, this instrument is guaranteed to be latex-free. It is not made with any natural rubber latex, making it safe for use in surgical environments involving patients with latex sensitivities.

Are these forceps manufactured to professional standards?

Yes, Sklar is a trusted name in surgical instrumentation. These forceps are TAA compliant (Trade Agreements Act), meaning they meet strict quality and sourcing standards required for government procurement and high-level medical environments.

What is the primary difference compared to standard forceps?

The Rochester-Ochsner variant is distinct due to its heavier, more robust build. While standard forceps are suitable for delicate tasks, this specific model is intentionally weighted and engineered for more rigorous applications that require significant grasping force and vessel occlusion.

Do these forceps arrive sterile?

No, these instruments are delivered in a non-sterile state. They are intended to be sterilized by the facility prior to their first use and after every subsequent procedure.

What is the total length of this instrument?

This specific model measures 6-1/4 inches in total length. This length offers a balanced profile, providing enough reach for standard surgical access while maintaining the heavy-duty structural integrity needed for its intended use.

Is there long-term protection for this investment?

Yes, Sklar stands behind the quality of this instrument with a comprehensive lifetime warranty against defects, giving you confidence in the durability and craftsmanship of your surgical tool.
