Description

Sklar Rochester-Oschner (Kocher) Forceps are a heavy instrument designed to aggressively grasp medium to heavy tissue or occlude heavy, dense vessels. They have horizontal serrations the entire length of the jaw as well as 1 X 2 teeth at the tip. The combination of full serrations plus teeth ensure a firm grip on the tissue or vessel being held. Rochester-Oschner Forceps are available either curved or straight and in multiple lengths. These forceps are sometimes referred to as simply Oschner Forceps, however, Rochester-Oschner Forceps are actually heavier than standard Oschner Forceps. This product is curved with full, horizontally serrated jaws, 1 X 2 teeth, and a length of 5-1/2 inches.

Frequently asked questions

Are these forceps designed for heavy tissue handling?

Yes, these forceps are specifically engineered with a heavy-duty construction that provides more mass than standard Ochsner forceps. This makes them ideal for the aggressive manipulation of medium to heavy tissue and the occlusion of dense, thick vessels.

Do the jaws provide a secure hold on tissue?

Absolutely. To ensure a reliable and firm grip, the instrument features:

  • Full-length horizontal serrations to maintain consistent pressure.
  • 1x2 teeth at the tip to prevent slippage during surgical procedures.
Is the stainless steel grade suitable for clinical use?

These instruments are crafted from professional-grade stainless steel, designed to withstand the rigors of frequent use in clinical environments while maintaining precise functionality.

Can these instruments be reused after sterilization?

Yes, this is a reusable surgical instrument. Please note that it arrives non-sterile, so it must be properly cleaned and sterilized according to your facility’s protocols before its first use.

How does the locking mechanism perform?

The forceps utilize a ratcheted finger-ring handle featuring a multi-position locking mechanism. This allows surgeons to securely lock the instrument at the desired tension for controlled, hands-free occlusion.

Does this instrument contain any natural rubber latex?

No, this product is not made with natural rubber latex, making it a safe choice for practitioners and patients with latex sensitivities.

What is the total length of these forceps?

The Sklar Rochester-Ochsner Forceps have an overall instrument length of 5-1/2 inches, providing a balance between control and reach.

Are these forceps considered TAA compliant?

Yes, this model is TAA compliant, meeting the requirements for procurement by government and federal healthcare institutions.

How should I maintain these stainless steel instruments?

To ensure long-term performance and preserve the integrity of the stainless steel, it is recommended to:

  • Follow standard medical-grade autoclave sterilization procedures.
  • Perform regular inspections of the pivot and ratcheting mechanism to ensure smooth operation.
Is this a standard or heavy-duty surgical tool?

This is a heavy-duty Rochester-Ochsner variant. It is intentionally built with extra mass and robust construction compared to standard Ochsner forceps, specifically to handle more demanding surgical tasks involving denser tissue.
