Description

Sklar's Pratt Uterine Dilator is a double-ended OB/GYN instrument used for progressive dilation of the uterus. It is most frequently used during intrauterine procedures such as D&C and D&E. The size of these dilators is determined by the circumference of the tip and measured in French units, with one French unit equalling 1/3mm. Pratt dilators are available in several sizes. Each dilator has two different size tips. In comparison to other intrauterine dilators, Pratt dilators taper more gradually and are slightly lighter than Hegar dilators. They do not have a cuff to serve as a stop for depth of insertion such as featured on Hank dilators. The instrument is straight in the middle, slightly curved at each end, with a smooth, rounded tip. This product is a size 33/35 French dilator.

Frequently asked questions

Does this dilator allow for controlled, gradual dilation?

Yes, the Pratt design is specifically engineered for a more gradual taper compared to other instruments like Hegar dilators. This allows for more controlled and progressive dilation during procedures such as D&C and D&E.

Is this instrument made of high-quality, durable material?

Absolutely. This dilator is manufactured from high-grade stainless steel, ensuring it is built for repeated, long-term use in clinical environments.

Does the double-ended design improve workflow efficiency?

Yes, by incorporating two different sizes—33 Fr and 35 Fr—onto a single instrument, this tool reduces the number of individual instruments needed on the sterile field, streamlining your workflow.

Is this device safe for patients with latex sensitivities?

Yes, this product is completely free from natural rubber latex, ensuring compatibility and safety for patients with latex allergies.

Does the instrument feature a cuff stop for insertion depth?

No, this specific Pratt model is designed without a cuff stop. It features a smooth, straight central shaft with slightly curved ends and smooth, rounded tips for a simple, streamlined design.

How does the sizing system work for this dilator?

The sizes follow the French (Fr) measurement system, where one French unit equals exactly 1/3 mm in circumference at the tip. This model specifically offers 33 Fr and 35 Fr configurations.

Is this instrument suitable for TAA-compliant medical facilities?

Does the manufacturer stand behind the durability of this tool?

Yes, Sklar supports this instrument with a lifetime warranty, reflecting their confidence in the quality and construction of the stainless steel used.

How should this instrument be prepared before use?

As this instrument is shipped non-sterile, it must be properly cleaned and sterilized according to your facility’s established protocols for surgical instruments before its first use.
