Description

Sklar's Pratt Uterine Dilator is a double-ended OB/GYN instrument used for progressive dilation of the uterus. It is most frequently used during intrauterine procedures such as D&C and D&E. The size of these dilators is determined by the circumference of the tip and measured in French units, with one French unit equalling 1/3mm. Pratt dilators are available in several sizes. Each dilator has two different size tips. In comparison to other intrauterine dilators, Pratt dilators taper more gradually and are slightly lighter than Hegar dilators. They do not have a cuff to serve as a stop for depth of insertion such as featured on Hank dilators. The instrument is straight in the middle, slightly curved at each end, with a smooth, rounded tip. This product is a size 25/27 French dilator.

Frequently asked questions

Does the Pratt design offer a more controlled dilation?

Yes, the Pratt design is specifically engineered for progressive, gradual dilation. It features a more gradual taper compared to Hegar dilators, which allows for smoother and more controlled uterine expansion during procedures.

Is this instrument built to withstand repeated sterilization?

Absolutely. This dilator is manufactured from high-grade stainless steel and is designed to be a fully reusable instrument, capable of enduring the rigorous requirements of repeated clinical sterilization cycles.

Does the tip design ensure patient safety during insertion?

Yes, each end of the instrument terminates in a smooth, rounded tip. This design is intentional to provide a safe, atraumatic insertion process.

Is this dilator free from natural rubber latex?

Yes, this instrument is guaranteed to be not made with natural rubber latex, making it a safe choice for environments or patients with latex sensitivities.

How does the Pratt taper compare to a Hank dilator?

Unlike Hank dilators, the Pratt design does not feature a cuff or stop to limit insertion depth. This allows the surgeon more flexibility during the dilation procedure, relying on the gradual taper of the Pratt tip for control.

Is this product compliant with TAA regulations?

Yes, this Sklar Pratt Uterine Dilator is fully TAA (Trade Agreements Act) compliant, ensuring it meets the necessary standards for use in relevant institutional and government-contracted medical settings.

What is the specific French sizing for this instrument?

This double-ended model provides two distinct functional sizes: 25 French (Fr) and 27 French (Fr). In the French sizing system, one unit equals 1/3 mm in circumference.

Does the instrument require special preparation before its first use?

Yes, the dilator is supplied non-sterile. It must undergo your facility’s standard sterilization protocols before it is used in any clinical or surgical environment.

Can you confirm the material quality of this dilator?

This instrument is constructed from durable, high-grade stainless steel. It is built for professional handling and designed to provide long-term operational value in demanding clinical settings.

Is this a double-ended instrument?

Yes, it is a double-ended, symmetrical instrument. This configuration allows for greater utility and efficiency by providing two different French sizes (25 Fr and 27 Fr) on a single tool.
