Description

Sklar Utility Scissors are a multipurpose instrument used for cutting non-sterile materials such as dressings, casts, and surgical drapes. These scissors are angled and have one serrated blade and one smooth blade. The flattened, wide, blunt tip on the serrated blade greatly reduces the likelihood of skin being nicked if the scissors are used for cutting material that is on the patient, such as clothing or bandages. They should never be used to cut tissue or sutures. One plastic finger ring is larger than the other for maximized control while cutting.

Frequently asked questions

Are these scissors designed safely for use near skin?

Yes, these scissors are specifically engineered with patient safety in mind. They feature a flattened, wide, blunt tip on the serrated blade that significantly reduces the risk of accidentally nicking the skin while cutting bandages, clothing, or drapes.

Does the blade design help with different materials?

Absolutely. The scissors use an asymmetrical blade configuration to optimize cutting performance. One blade is serrated, which grips and holds material firmly in place, while the opposing blade is smooth, ensuring a clean, precise cut. This makes them ideal for varied non-sterile materials.

Are these built to last for professional use?

These instruments are designed for durability and long-term utility. They are manufactured from high-quality stainless steel, making them fully reusable. Furthermore, your purchase is protected by a lifetime warranty, demonstrating the manufacturer’s confidence in their construction.

Are these appropriate for cutting surgical sutures or tissue?

No. These are strictly designated as utility scissors for general-purpose cutting of non-sterile materials such as dressings, casts, and surgical drapes. They should never be used to cut sutures or actual human tissue.

Do the handles offer good control for precise cuts?

Yes, the handle is designed for maximum ergonomics and control. It features asymmetrical finger rings, where one ring is intentionally larger than the other, allowing for a more stable and comfortable grip during use.

What types of materials are these scissors best suited for?

These scissors are versatile tools for general medical, first-aid, or field dressing preparation. They are excellent for cutting: • Dressings and bandages • Surgical drapes • Light casting materials • Fabrics and medical tape.

Does the angled design help when cutting?

Yes, the angled body is a critical feature that allows for easier access when trimming materials at difficult angles. This design provides better visibility and improved mechanics, especially when accessing materials near a patient’s body.

Can I use these safely in a latex-sensitive environment?

Yes, these scissors are completely latex-free. They are not made with any natural rubber latex, making them safe for use in clinical or home environments where latex allergies are a concern.
