Frequently asked questions

Are these scissors suitable for delicate vascular procedures?

Yes, these instruments are specifically engineered for the high-precision requirements of micro-surgery. The curved design is particularly advantageous for navigating around sensitive vessels and nerve structures during delicate dissection tasks.

How durable is the construction for long-term use?

These scissors are built for longevity. Manufactured from high-quality stainless steel, they are designed as a reusable instrument capable of withstanding repeated sterilization cycles, ensuring they remain a reliable part of your surgical toolkit for years to come.

Can I use the tips for anything other than cutting?

Absolutely. The blunt/blunt (B/B) tip configuration offers a unique advantage: when the tips are held closed, the sides of the scissors can effectively be utilized for blunt dissection, functioning much like forceps.

Is the saw edge design beneficial for precision work?

Yes, the saw edge working style provides enhanced control and grip during operation. This feature is particularly helpful for cleanly trimming nerve endings and cutting sutures without slippage.

Is this product latex-free?

Yes, Sklar Micro Dissection Scissors are not made with natural rubber latex, making them a safe choice for surgical environments where latex allergies are a consideration.

What is the benefit of the flat handle design?

The flat handle is designed for superior tactile feedback and control during intricate surgical maneuvers. It allows the surgeon to maintain a steady, secure grip, which is essential when working under a microscope or during highly detailed dissections.

Are these scissors TAA compliant?

Yes, these scissors meet all necessary standards for TAA compliance, ensuring they are manufactured to strict quality and regulatory requirements suitable for professional medical environments.

Do I need to sterilize them before the first use?

Yes, these instruments are delivered non-sterile. They should be properly cleaned and sterilized according to your facility’s established protocols for reusable surgical instruments before their initial use.

Is the curved profile specifically for right-handed users?

The curved profile is designed for optimal anatomical access rather than handedness. Its geometry is intended to provide better clearance and visibility when working around curved structures like blood vessels and nerves, regardless of the hand used.

How are these distinct from general-purpose surgical scissors?

These are specialized micro-dissection scissors. Unlike general scissors, they feature:

  • A specialized 6-inch length for finer control.
  • A specific saw edge for precision cutting.
  • A blunt tip configuration designed to prevent accidental tissue trauma during delicate work.
