Description

Sklar's Littauer Stitch Scissors are primarily used for suture removal. These scissors have a small hook shaped tip on one blade that slides under sutures to slightly lift them before cutting for removal. This hook also holds the suture so it does not slip off the blade of the scissors prior to cutting. Littauer Stitch Scissors are most commonly available in the length of 5-1/2 inches, therefore, they typically have larger, less delicate tips than Spencer Stitch Scissors, and are used for removing larger sutures. They should not be used for cutting tissue. This product is straight with smooth, blunt/blunt tips and a length of 5-1/2 inches.

Frequently asked questions

Are these scissors suitable for larger suture removal?

Yes, these 5-1/2 inch scissors are specifically designed with larger tips, making them ideal for safely removing larger gauge sutures that would be difficult to manage with more delicate instruments.

Is the integrated suture hook effective at preventing slippage?

Absolutely. The specialized hook-shaped tip is engineered to slide effortlessly underneath the suture, lifting it securely and holding it firmly against the cutting edge to ensure a clean, precise cut without slipping.

Is the stainless steel high-quality for frequent clinical use?

These scissors are manufactured from premium stainless steel, ensuring they are durable, corrosion-resistant, and built for long-term, repeated use in demanding clinical and surgical environments.

Can I use these scissors to cut tissue?

No. These instruments are specifically designed for suture removal and are not intended for cutting tissue. Using them on tissue can dull the precision blades and compromise the effectiveness of the suture hook.

Is this instrument compatible with professional tracking systems?

Yes, this model comes CensiTrac marked, allowing for seamless integration into professional inventory and reprocessing tracking systems used in modern medical facilities.

Does the design support comfortable, steady handling?

Yes, they feature ergonomic finger rings that provide a secure, comfortable grip, allowing for the precise control required when performing delicate suture removals.

Are these scissors considered TAA compliant?

Yes, this product is TAA compliant, making it a suitable choice for procurement in government and clinical environments where specific trade agreement adherence is required.

Are the materials used in these scissors latex-free?

Yes, these scissors are not made with natural rubber latex, ensuring they are safe for use in environments where latex sensitivities are a concern.

How should I handle the sterility of these scissors?

These scissors are supplied non-sterile. They are designed to be reusable and should be processed through your facility’s standard cleaning and sterilization protocols before their first use and between subsequent patient applications.

Is the blunt/blunt tip design beneficial for patient safety?

The blunt/blunt tip configuration is specifically chosen to reduce the risk of accidental punctures or skin trauma while guiding the scissor tips into place, ensuring the removal process is as safe and controlled as possible.
