Description

Sklar's Littauer Stitch Scissors are primarily used for suture removal. These scissors have a small hook shaped tip on one blade that slides under sutures to slightly lift them before cutting for removal. This hook also holds the suture so it does not slip off the blade of the scissors prior to cutting. Littauer Stitch Scissors are most commonly available in the length of 5-1/2 inches, therefore, they typically have larger, less delicate tips than Spencer Stitch Scissors, and are used for removing larger sutures. They should not be used for cutting tissue. This product is straight with smooth, blunt/blunt tips and a length of 5-1/2 inches.

Frequently asked questions

How do these scissors make suture removal easier?

These scissors feature a specialized hook-shaped tip on one blade. This design allows you to slide under the suture, gently lift it, and secure it in place so the suture does not slip while you make the cut.

Is the stainless steel construction durable for clinical use?

Yes, they are manufactured from high-grade, durable stainless steel. This ensures the instrument can withstand the rigors of repeated, reusable use in busy medical settings.

Are these comfortable to hold during procedures?

The scissors are designed with standard finger ring handles, which provide a secure, ergonomic grip and allow for precise control and manipulation during suture removal.

Are these suitable for removing larger, thicker sutures?

Yes, with their 5-1/2” length and robust, blunt tips, these scissors are well-suited for handling larger, more substantial sutures compared to more delicate instruments like Spencer Stitch Scissors.

Do these arrive ready to use immediately?

These scissors are shipped non-sterile. They must undergo your facility’s standard sterilization protocols before being used in any clinical or surgical environment.

Are these safe for patients with latex allergies?

Absolutely. They are manufactured entirely without natural rubber latex, making them a safe choice for clinical environments that require latex-free equipment.

Is this a TAA-compliant instrument?

Yes, the Sklar Littauer Suture Scissors are TAA compliant, meeting the regulatory standards required for many government and professional medical procurement needs.

What defines the tip configuration of this model?

They feature a blunt/blunt (B/B) tip configuration. One of these blunt tips is specially integrated with a suture hook, ensuring a clean, safe cut without risking accidental tissue damage.

Can these be reused multiple times?

Yes, they are designed as a reusable medical instrument. Their construction is intended for repeated use, provided they are maintained and sterilized properly between procedures.

How do these differ from other general stitch scissors?

While standard stitch scissors vary, this Littauer model is engineered for precision removal. The combination of the specialized hook tip and the specific blade length makes them superior for tasks where secure, slip-free cutting is a priority.
