Description

Sklar's Littauer Cutting Forceps are a non-ratcheted, plier handle instrument used primarily for cutting nail and bone. As nail nippers they are used for nail debridement. They may also be used on delicate bones found in the facial and nasal region, or small animal (mice) veterinary procedures. The short, sharp blades are able to produce enough force to cut through thick nail and small bone, but delicate enough not to cause trauma to surrounding tissue or organs. This is particularly helpful with nail debridement which should be completed in short, small sections to avoid damage to the hyponychium. This product is straight with smooth edges and an overall length of 6 inches.

Frequently asked questions

Is this instrument made of durable materials?

Yes, it is crafted from high-quality stainless steel. This material is specifically chosen for its longevity, corrosion resistance, and suitability for repeated sterilization processes, making it a reliable, long-term tool for your medical practice.

Does the design offer precise cutting control?

Absolutely. The instrument features a plier-style handle integrated with a spring mechanism. This design ensures that the user has smooth, controlled operation during delicate procedures, allowing for precise force application.

Is it suitable for careful nail debridement?

Yes, this is a primary application for this tool. The short, sharp blades allow for highly localized cutting, which enables you to make small, controlled sections to effectively remove tissue while protecting the sensitive hyponychium.

Can it be used for small bone procedures?

Yes, the Littauer Cutting Forceps are versatile enough for:

  • Podiatric procedures involving nail tissue.
  • Minor surgical excisions.
  • Veterinary applications involving small bone structures in facial or nasal regions.
Is this product safe for latex-sensitive environments?

Yes, this instrument is not made with natural rubber latex. It is perfectly suitable for use in environments where latex-free protocols are required to ensure patient safety.

Is the instrument designed for multiple uses?

Yes, it is a reusable instrument. Because it is constructed from durable, high-grade stainless steel, it is designed to withstand the rigors of repeated medical sterilization cycles required in clinical settings.

Why choose the curved back blade design?

The curved back blade design is optimized to:

  • Minimize trauma to the surrounding soft tissues.
  • Provide a smooth working edge that cuts effectively without jaggedness.
  • Allow for better accessibility in confined anatomical spaces.
Does this meet specific medical procurement standards?

Yes, this instrument is TAA compliant. This certification verifies that it meets the necessary standards for government and institutional medical procurement, ensuring it is appropriate for use in a wide variety of professional healthcare facilities.

Is the handle comfortable to hold during procedures?

The plier-style handle is engineered for ergonomic efficiency. The inclusion of the spring mechanism assists the user in opening the jaws, which helps reduce hand fatigue during long or repetitive tasks.

Does the instrument arrive sterile?

The instrument is delivered non-sterile. This allows medical facilities to follow their specific, validated sterilization protocols before first use, ensuring the tool aligns perfectly with your facility’s safety standards.
