Description

Sklar's Littauer Cutting Forceps are a non-ratcheted, plier handle instrument used primarily for cutting nail and bone. As nail nippers they are used for nail debridement. They may also be used on delicate bones found in the facial and nasal region, or small animal (mice) veterinary procedures. The short, sharp blades are able to produce enough force to cut through thick nail and small bone, but delicate enough not to cause trauma to surrounding tissue or organs. This is particularly helpful with nail debridement which should be completed in short, small sections to avoid damage to the hyponychium. This product is straight with smooth edges and an overall length of 5 inches.

Frequently asked questions

Is this instrument made of high-grade stainless steel?

Yes, these forceps are manufactured from durable stainless steel, designed for long-term, reusable service in professional clinical settings.

Are these forceps suitable for cutting thick nails?

Absolutely. The design features short, sharp blades engineered to deliver precise cutting force, making them ideal for debriding dense keratin such as thick nails.

Can these be used for delicate bone work?

Yes, they are specifically designed for performing precise cutting on delicate bones, such as those found in nasal or facial regions, or for small animal veterinary procedures.

Why is the non-ratcheted handle design preferred?

The non-ratcheted, plier-style handle provides direct, manual control over the cutting action. This is often preferred for applications where the user requires immediate feedback and specific force application, such as short-section nail debridement.

Will these forceps damage surrounding healthy tissue?

These are crafted to minimize trauma. The combination of the sharp blades and the specific curved back design allows for clean shearing rather than ripping, helping protect adjacent soft tissues during procedures.

Is this instrument safe for latex-sensitive environments?

Yes, the product is not made with natural rubber latex. It is completely latex-free, ensuring safety for both practitioners and patients with latex sensitivities.

Do these forceps meet professional medical standards?

Yes, these instruments are TAA compliant and manufactured to rigorous Sklar or Grade quality standards, ensuring reliability and precision for medical and veterinary use.

Why is the curved back blade design important?

The curved back blades enable a smooth working edge that facilitates a clean, shearing cutting action. This design is crucial for procedures where accuracy is paramount and crushing must be avoided.

How should I manage this reusable instrument?

As a reusable surgical-grade tool, these forceps are built to withstand standard sterilization processes. They are shipped non-sterile, so they must be properly cleaned and sterilized according to your facility’s protocols before their first and subsequent uses.

Which professionals benefit most from this tool?

This instrument is an excellent choice for specialists in: * Podiatry (nail care), * Maxillofacial surgery, and * Veterinary medicine (specifically for small animals). These fields rely on the fine control and precise force this tool offers.
