Description

Sklar Halsted Mosquito Forceps are used in multiple procedures as a hemostat for small blood vessels. The ratcheted finger ring handle provides a secure, locking grip to halt blood flow. They are not appropriate for use with large vessels or arteries. A toothed variation is available for grasping delicate tissue in skin grafting, biopsies, or ophthalmologic procedures. Mosquito forceps are known for their fine tips, and short, fully serrated jaws. They are available curved or straight. The standard length for this instrument is 5 inches, although Sklar does offer some with a length of 5-1/2 inches. Halsted Mosquito Forceps are very similar to Hartmann Mosquito Forceps, however, the Hartmann style is finer and more delicate. This product is curved with serrated tips, 1 X 2 teeth and a length of 5 inches.

Frequently asked questions

Are these forceps suitable for delicate surgical procedures?

Yes, these forceps are specifically designed for delicate manipulation. They feature:

  • Fine tips for precision work.
  • Short, fully serrated jaws that provide a secure hold on small blood vessels and tissue without causing unnecessary trauma.
Is the stainless steel material durable for long-term use?

Absolutely. These are constructed from high-quality stainless steel, chosen for its longevity, resistance to corrosion, and reliability in medical environments. As a reusable instrument, they are engineered to maintain their performance through repeated sterilization cycles.

How does the locking mechanism perform during use?

The forceps are equipped with a ratcheted finger ring handle. This mechanism allows the surgeon to:

  • Lock the forceps in place with a firm grip.
  • Maintain consistent pressure on a vessel without needing to apply continuous manual force.
Is the instrument safe for patients with latex allergies?

Yes, this product is 100% latex-free. It is manufactured without the use of natural rubber latex, ensuring it is safe for use in clinical settings involving patients or staff with latex sensitivities.

Can I use these for specialized ophthalmologic procedures?

Yes, their design makes them versatile for several sensitive applications, including:

  • Ophthalmologic procedures
  • Skin grafting
  • Biopsies
  • Hemostasis of small blood vessels
What is the benefit of the CensiTrac marking on this model?

The CensiTrac markings are laser-etched identifiers that facilitate instrument tracking and management within a facility’s sterile processing workflow, helping to ensure compliance, proper inventory control, and maintenance scheduling.

Are these forceps designed for professional clinical environments?

Yes, they are TAA compliant and meet the rigorous standards required for surgical instruments in professional medical institutions.

How should I prepare these forceps before the first use?

Since these are supplied non-sterile, they must undergo an appropriate sterilization process according to your facility’s protocols for reusable stainless steel surgical instruments before being used in any procedure.

How do the teeth help with tissue handling?

The 1x2 teeth configuration at the tips provides an enhanced, non-slip grip when handling tissue or clamping vessels. This allows for superior control and precision compared to non-toothed forceps.

How long is the warranty on these forceps?

These Sklar forceps are backed by a lifetime warranty, reflecting the high-quality craftsmanship and the manufacturer’s commitment to the durability of their stainless steel instruments.
