Description

Sklar Gemini Mixter Forceps, which may also be referred to as simply Gemini forceps or simply Mixter forceps, are ratcheted, finger ring forceps used for clamping vessels and occluding tissue. Both Gemini and Mixter forceps commonly have serrations the entire length of their jaws. Gemini forceps; however, offer delicate serrations so they may be used on more delicate tissue, versus the standard serrations offered with the Mixter product. Also, while Mixter forceps frequently feature right angle jaws; Gemini tend to have more of a curve to the jaws. This product combines the standard serration pattern found on Mixter forceps with the curved jaws of Gemini forceps. It is 14 inches long overall. These longer forceps are frequently used in bariatric procedures.

Frequently asked questions

Is this instrument suitable for delicate surgical procedures?

Yes, these forceps are specifically designed for delicate tissue handling. Unlike standard Mixter forceps which may have more aggressive patterns, this model features delicate serrations on the jaws to ensure a precise, non-crushing grip on sensitive vessels.

Does the 14-inch length work for bariatric surgery?

Absolutely. The 14-inch overall length is purposefully engineered to provide the extended reach required for deep-cavity work, making it an excellent choice for bariatric procedures where longer instruments are a clinical necessity.

Is the material durable for repeated surgical use?

The instrument is constructed from high-grade stainless steel, a material chosen for its superior strength, corrosion resistance, and ability to withstand repeated sterilization cycles in a professional operating room environment.

Does the curved jaw design provide better access?

The curved jaw profile is a key feature that provides improved visibility and access compared to traditional right-angle instruments, allowing surgeons to reach and occlude vessels more effectively in tight or restricted surgical fields.

Are these forceps safe for patients with latex allergies?

Yes, patient safety is prioritized; these Sklar Gemini Mixter Forceps are not made with natural rubber latex.

Is the ratcheting mechanism reliable?

Yes, the instrument includes a secure ratcheted finger-ring mechanism, allowing for consistent, locking occlusion of vessels and tissue during extended procedures.

Does this tool meet federal procurement standards?

The instrument is fully TAA compliant, meeting the necessary requirements for federal supply and procurement standards.

How should I handle the instrument before first use?

Because the product is shipped non-sterile, it must be properly cleaned and sterilized according to your facility’s standard protocols for surgical instruments before it is used in a clinical setting.

Is this a high-precision medical instrument?

Yes, this is a professional-grade surgical tool. It is manufactured by Sklar to meet rigorous standards for high-precision environments, ensuring the reliability and accuracy surgeons require during complex operations.

Are these forceps built to last?

These forceps are designed for longevity. In addition to being constructed from high-durability stainless steel, they are backed by a lifetime warranty, reflecting the manufacturer’s confidence in the craft and durability of the tool.
