Description

Sklar Edge Tungsten Carbide Operating Scissors, also known as Surgical Scissors, are a versatile surgical instrument. With three available tip configurations (sharp/sharp, blunt/blunt, or sharp/blunt), varying curvatures and multiple lengths, these scissors are used for general, multipurpose cutting and dissecting. Sharp Operating Scissors cut tougher tissue and are frequently used for dissecting, whereas blunt Operating Scissors are more often used for cutting materials such as sutures, tubing, or gauze. TC instruments are designed to stay sharp for a significantly longer period of time than other standard instruments. Sklar permanently bonds tungsten carbide inserts to the instrument, which maximizes control and precision. TC instruments are identified by gold handles. This product is straight with smooth, blunt/blunt tips and a length of 5-1/2 inches.

Frequently asked questions

Do these scissors stay sharp for a long time?

Yes, they feature Tungsten Carbide (TC) inserts permanently bonded to the stainless steel. This advanced construction is specifically designed to maintain a sharp, precise cutting edge significantly longer than standard, non-TC instruments.

Are these suitable for cutting dense tissue?

These scissors are specifically designed with a blunt/blunt tip configuration, making them ideal for cutting softer materials like sutures, gauze, or medical tubing. They are not recommended for dense tissue dissection.

Why do the handle rings have gold coloring?

The dual gold finger rings are a standard industry indicator that the instrument features Tungsten Carbide (TC) inserts. This allows for easy visual identification of these high-performance scissors in a busy surgical environment.

Is the material safe for those with latex allergies?

Yes, these scissors are 100% latex-free. They are not made with any natural rubber latex, ensuring safety for both patients and medical staff with latex sensitivities.

Can these instruments be safely reused?

Absolutely. These are Sklar Premium Grade instruments constructed from durable stainless steel, engineered for repeated use in clinical settings. Please note that they arrive non-sterile, so they must undergo your facility’s standard sterilization procedures before their first use.

What defines the Sklar Premium Grade quality?

Sklar Premium Grade signifies that the instrument is manufactured to the highest standards of the brand. This ensures:

  • Superior material consistency.
  • Enhanced durability for frequent clinical use.
  • Precise alignment for reliable, long-term performance.
Are these compliant with government procurement standards?

Yes, this product is TAA compliant (Trade Agreements Act). This makes them appropriate for use in facilities that require strict adherence to government procurement regulations.

Will these scissors provide good control?

Yes, the combination of Tungsten Carbide inserts and a premium stainless steel body is engineered to maximize control. The smooth working edges and the specific geometry of the instrument provide the tactile precision needed for delicate, non-tissue cutting tasks.

Is the blunt/blunt tip practical for general work?

The blunt/blunt configuration is an excellent choice for general multipurpose cutting. It is specifically useful when you need to cut materials like gauze or sutures safely, as the rounded, squared-off tips minimize the risk of accidental punctures during the cutting process.

Are these meant to last a lifetime?

Yes, these instruments are built with longevity in mind and are backed by a lifetime warranty. When properly maintained and sterilized according to standard protocols, their durable stainless steel construction ensures they remain a reliable tool for your practice.
