Description

Sklar Edge Tungsten Carbide Operating Scissors, also known as Surgical Scissors, are a versatile surgical instrument. With three available tip configurations (sharp/sharp, blunt/blunt, or sharp/blunt), varying curvatures and multiple lengths, these scissors are used for general, multipurpose cutting and dissecting. Sharp Operating Scissors cut tougher tissue and are frequently used for dissecting, whereas blunt Operating Scissors are more often used for cutting materials such as sutures, tubing, or gauze. TC instruments are designed to stay sharp for a significantly longer period of time than other standard instruments. Sklar permanently bonds tungsten carbide inserts to the instrument, which maximizes control and precision. TC instruments are identified by gold handles. This product is straight with smooth, sharp/blunt tips and a length of 5-1/2 inches.

Frequently asked questions

Why are the finger rings gold-plated?

The distinctive dual gold finger rings serve as an important visual indicator. They designate the instrument as a Tungsten Carbide (TC) premium grade tool, distinguishing it from standard stainless steel instruments.

What is the benefit of Tungsten Carbide inserts?

Tungsten Carbide (TC) inserts provide significant advantages for professional use:

Enhanced Durability: They are permanently bonded to the cutting edge, offering superior resistance to wear.

Longer-Lasting Sharpness: TC material holds an edge significantly longer than standard stainless steel, ensuring consistent precision over time.

Are these scissors suitable for multipurpose use?

Yes, these are highly versatile. The sharp/blunt (S/B) configuration allows you to perform two types of tasks with a single tool:

Sharp Tip: Ideal for dissecting or cutting through tougher tissue.

Blunt Tip: Perfect for safely cutting materials like sutures or gauze without damaging surrounding areas.

Is this instrument safe for those with latex allergies?

Absolutely. This product is 100% latex-free, meaning it is not manufactured using natural rubber latex, making it a safe choice for surgical environments with latex sensitivity protocols.

How should I maintain these surgical scissors?

While intended for professional, repeated use, proper maintenance is key to longevity. We recommend cleaning them thoroughly after use with a damp cloth or following your facility’s standard sterilization and cleaning protocols for high-grade stainless steel instruments.

Is the curved design helpful for specific tasks?

Yes, the curved-on-flat design is engineered to provide better visibility and reach during surgical procedures. The curvature allows for easier maneuvering around tissue while keeping the cutting edge at an optimal angle for precision.

Can I trust the quality of this Sklar Edge instrument?

Yes, this instrument is classified as Sklar Premium Grade. It is TAA Compliant and built to rigorous surgical standards, ensuring it meets the professional demands required in clinical settings.

Does this tool come sterile right out of the package?

No, this instrument is supplied non-sterile. It is designed to be reusable and should be processed through your facility’s sterilization cycle before its first use.
