Description

Sklar Edge Tungsten Carbide Operating Scissors, also known as Surgical Scissors, are a versatile surgical instrument. With three available tip configurations (sharp/sharp, blunt/blunt, or sharp/blunt), varying curvatures and multiple lengths, these scissors are used for general, multipurpose cutting and dissecting. Sharp Operating Scissors cut tougher tissue and are frequently used for dissecting, whereas blunt Operating Scissors are more often used for cutting materials such as sutures, tubing, or gauze. TC instruments are designed to stay sharp for a significantly longer period of time than other standard instruments. Sklar permanently bonds tungsten carbide inserts to the instrument, which maximizes control and precision. TC instruments are identified by gold handles. This product is straight with smooth, blunt/blunt tips and a length of 5-1/2 inches.

Frequently asked questions

Does the Tungsten Carbide material improve performance?

Yes, the permanently bonded Tungsten Carbide (TC) inserts significantly outperform standard stainless steel scissors. This material choice provides:

Enhanced Sharpness Retention: Stays sharper for a much longer service life.

Precision Cutting: Engineered for consistent, reliable action during repeated use.

Are these scissors safe for use around sensitive structures?

These scissors feature a blunt/blunt (B/B) tip configuration, which is specifically designed to provide safety when working near sensitive areas where sharp, pointed tips could cause unintended injury. The rounded tips allow for safer manipulation and cutting.

Can these be reused multiple times?

Absolutely. This is a premium-grade, reusable instrument. It is crafted from high-quality stainless steel with durable TC inserts, designed to withstand the rigors of repeated cleaning and sterilization cycles in a clinical environment.

What is the benefit of the curved-on-flat design?

The curved-on-flat configuration offers superior ergonomic access. This design allows you to maneuver the blades more easily when cutting at an angle or navigating around materials, such as tubing or dressings, without needing to adjust your hand position awkwardly.

Is this product latex-free?

Yes, this product is not made with natural rubber latex, making it a safe choice for environments or patients with latex sensitivities.

How can I quickly identify these as TC scissors?

The instrument features distinctive dual gold-plated finger rings. This gold finish is the industry-standard visual indicator for Tungsten Carbide-tipped surgical instruments, ensuring you can easily identify their high-performance construction in a busy tray.

Are these scissors suitable for cutting heavy materials?

While these are high-precision instruments, the smooth working edge and robust construction make them ideal for cutting non-tissue materials such as:

Sutures

Tubing

Gauze and dressings

Does this product meet government procurement standards?

Yes, this instrument is TAA (Trade Agreements Act) compliant, ensuring it meets the rigorous manufacturing and origin requirements necessary for government and institutional procurement contracts.
