Frequently asked questions

Is this speculum better for specialized surgical access?

Yes, it features unique blade geometry. It has a greater curve compared to Hardy and Papavero-Caspar models, allowing for improved access to the pituitary region during delicate procedures.

Is the material durable for heavy clinical use?

Absolutely. It is manufactured from high-quality stainless steel, designed specifically to withstand repeated sterilization cycles while maintaining its structural integrity over time.

Is this instrument safe for latex-sensitive patients?

Yes, the Sklar Cushing-Landolt Speculum is explicitly latex-free. It is manufactured without natural rubber latex, ensuring safety for patients with sensitivities.

Is this instrument TAA compliant?

Yes, this product is TAA compliant, meeting the requirements for government procurement and institutional standards.

Does this instrument require specific sterilization protocols?

As a reusable surgical instrument, it is shipped non-sterile. It must undergo rigorous, professional cleaning and sterilization protocols before its first use and between every subsequent patient procedure.

Can this be used for more than just tumor removal?

While primarily designed for trans-sphenoidal hypophysectomy, its precision design makes it versatile for a range of tasks in the pituitary region, including: Tumor removal (adenomas/craniopharyngiomas), Biopsies, and Debulking of large masses.

Is the duck-billed design ergonomic for surgeons?

Yes, the hand-held, duck-billed geometry is specifically engineered for precise control. The ergonomic curve is designed to facilitate steady, reliable access during complex neurological procedures.

Does Sklar stand behind their instrument quality?

Sklar demonstrates their commitment to quality by supporting this surgical instrument with a lifetime warranty, providing peace of mind for long-term clinical use.

How does it compare to standard Hardy specula?

The primary advantage of the Cushing-Landolt design is its distinct blade geometry. Its blades possess a more pronounced, greater curve than standard Hardy or Papavero-Caspar specula, which can be critical for optimizing access during trans-sphenoidal entry.

Will I receive a brand new instrument?

Yes, every unit purchased is factory new. We ensure that you receive a pristine, high-precision stainless steel instrument ready for your facility’s sterilization process.
