Frequently asked questions

Are these forceps made of durable, high-quality stainless steel?

Yes, these Sklar Crile Hemostatic Forceps are manufactured from premium stainless steel. This material choice ensures:

  • Longevity through repeated use.
  • A non-porous, corrosion-resistant surface suitable for rigorous surgical environments.
  • Consistent performance for demanding clinical tasks.
Can these be safely used if I have a latex allergy?

Absolutely. This product is not made with natural rubber latex, making it a safe choice for practitioners and patients who need to avoid latex exposure.

Is the locking mechanism reliable for secure clamping?

Yes, the instrument features a built-in ratchet locking mechanism. This is specifically designed to provide a tight, secure hold on vessels or tissue, ensuring the forceps remain locked in place until you manually release them.

What defines the unique jaw design of this model?

The Crile model is distinct due to specific design features:

  • Full-length serrations: The horizontal serrations extend the entire length of the jaw.
  • Proportional geometry: The jaws are precisely half the length of the shank, providing excellent leverage and control.
Are these forceps suitable for soft tissue dissection?

Yes, they are highly effective for fine soft tissue dissection. They are generally recommended for use at depths of 6 to 8 inches, making them versatile for various surgical procedures, including Laparotomy.

Does this product meet professional compliance standards?

Yes, these Sklar forceps are TAA compliant, meeting specific operational and procurement standards required for professional medical equipment.

Should I be aware of any special handling before first use?

Please note that the instrument is supplied non-sterile. You will need to ensure the forceps undergo the appropriate sterilization process according to your facility’s protocols before using them in any medical procedure.

Are these forceps intended for single use or repeated applications?

These are designed for repeated, reusable applications. Their robust stainless steel construction is engineered to withstand the repeated cleaning and sterilization cycles required in a professional surgical setting.

How long is the instrument overall?

This specific model measures 5-1/2 inches (approximately 14 cm) in total length, offering a compact and ergonomic profile for precise handling during surgery.

Why is the curvature of the jaws important?

The curved configuration of these forceps provides enhanced visibility and easier access when working around anatomical structures, particularly when clamping vessels or dissecting tissue in tight spaces where a straight instrument might be cumbersome.
