Description

Sklar's Cooley-Derra Atraumatic Forceps are a ratcheted, finger ring instrument commonly used for anastomosis in cardiovascular procedures. It is a partially occluding clamp that is frequently used to control blood flow from the carotid artery, aorta, and inferior vena cava. The atraumatic teeth provide a secure but delicate grip on vessels, causing little to no damage to the vessel walls. This instrument is offered in three sizes. This product has slightly curved shanks with a curvature that continues past the lock box into the jaws. The jaws follow the slight curvature of the shanks and towards the end angle to the left once, and then angle to the left again, creating a basket shape. There are 2x2 rows of fine, atraumatic teeth the entire length of the jaws and the tips are blunt and rounded. It is considered the large of the three available sizes. It's length is 7-1/4inches.

Frequently asked questions

Does this clamp provide a secure yet gentle grip?

Yes, this instrument is designed specifically for delicate vascular work. It features 2x2 rows of fine, atraumatic teeth that run the entire length of the jaws, allowing for a secure hold on vessels while minimizing the risk of damage to vessel walls.

Is the stainless steel durable enough for repeated sterilization?

Absolutely. The clamp is constructed from high-quality, reusable stainless steel engineered to withstand the rigorous demands of repeated sterilization cycles in a clinical environment, ensuring long-term durability.

What is the benefit of the unique double-angle jaw design?

The double-angle jaw configuration creates a distinctive basket shape. This specialized geometry is ideal for complex vessel manipulation, providing the surgeon with better access and control during cardiovascular anastomosis procedures.

What does the CensiTrac marking indicate for my facility?

The CensiTrac marking signifies that the instrument is compatible with CensiTrac tracking systems. This allows for improved inventory management, lifecycle tracking, and compliance monitoring within your surgical department.

Are the materials used in this instrument latex-free?

Yes, this Cooley-Derra Anastomosis Clamp is not made with natural rubber latex, making it a safe choice for environments or patients with latex sensitivities.

Can this be used on major vessels like the aorta?

Yes, this clamp is specifically engineered for use in cardiovascular procedures. It acts as a partially occluding clamp designed to temporarily manage blood flow in critical vessels, including the aorta, the inferior vena cava, and the carotid artery.

How should this instrument be prepared before the first surgery?

This product is delivered non-sterile. Before the first use, it must undergo appropriate cleaning and sterilization procedures in accordance with your facility’s protocols for surgical-grade stainless steel instruments.

Is this clamp compliant with trade regulations?

Yes, this product is TAA compliant, meeting the requirements for procurement in government and institutional medical settings.

How does the size of this model compare to other options?

This is the large configuration of the Cooley-Derra series, measuring 7-1/4 inches in total length. This specific size is the largest of the three available options in this product line, providing increased reach and leverage for major vessel procedures.

Is the handle easy to lock during intense procedures?

Yes, the clamp is equipped with a standard ratcheted finger ring handle located just above the rings. This mechanism allows the surgeon to securely lock the clamp in place to maintain consistent, partial occlusion of the vessel.
