Description

Sklar's Caspar detachable rongeur is used in orthopedic procedures, including laminectomies, discectomies and other spinal procedures requiring debulking or removing the vertebral arch. The handle design eases manual operation and effective grip while preserving the structure of the disc. A distinguishing feature of the Caspar, the cupped tip is serrated and fenestrated. It is available straight, angled up or angled down. The Caspar is available in different lengths and bite sizes. When the back hammer is pulled, the crossbar detaches from the shank, easing sterilization.

Frequently asked questions

Does the detachable shaft make sterilization more efficient?

Yes, the detachable shaft design is specifically engineered for easier, more thorough reprocessing. When the back hammer is pulled, the crossbar separates from the shank, allowing you to clean difficult-to-reach areas that standard fixed-shaft instruments might miss.

Is this rongeur durable enough for heavy surgical use?

Absolutely. This instrument is constructed from high-quality surgical-grade stainless steel, designed to withstand the rigorous demands of orthopedic and spinal procedures while maintaining its structural integrity over time.

How does the tip configuration aid in bone removal?

The rongeur features a specialized cupped tip that is both serrated and fenestrated. This combination is optimized for effective tissue acquisition and precise debulking of bone, ensuring you can remove material efficiently during procedures like laminectomies.

Is this instrument comfortable to use for long procedures?

The rongeur is designed with ergonomic finger ring handles. These are shaped to provide a secure, comfortable grip, helping to reduce hand fatigue during delicate and repetitive manual manipulations in spinal surgery.

Does the angled design help with access to difficult areas?

Yes. The angled-up tip configuration is specifically intended to improve access in complex anatomical locations. This design allows for better visualization and reach during spinal interventions where space is limited.

Is this instrument compatible with standard surgical protocols?

Yes, this instrument is fully reusable and designed to meet high standards for instrument reprocessing. Because it is TAA compliant and made from durable stainless steel, it is built to integrate reliably into professional surgical environments.

Are there any concerns about latex allergies with this tool?

You can use this instrument with confidence; it is not made with natural rubber latex, ensuring it is safe for use with patients or staff who may have latex sensitivities.

What is the specific bite size of this rongeur?

This particular model features a bite size of 5mm x 14mm. This dimension is ideal for the targeted bone removal and debulking required in discectomies and laminectomies.
