Description

Sklar's Caspar detachable rongeur is used in orthopedic procedures, including laminectomies, discectomies and other spinal procedures requiring debulking or removing the vertebral arch. The handle design eases manual operation and effective grip while preserving the structure of the disc. A distinguishing feature of the Caspar, the cupped tip is serrated and fenestrated. It is available straight, angled up or angled down. The Caspar is available in different lengths and bite sizes. When the back hammer is pulled, the crossbar detaches from the shank, easing sterilization.

Frequently asked questions

Does the detachable shaft simplify the sterilization process?

Yes, the detachable shaft design is specifically engineered to streamline maintenance. By simply pulling the back hammer, the crossbar separates from the shank, allowing for a much more thorough and efficient cleaning and sterilization process compared to fixed-shaft instruments.

Is the tip designed for precise bone removal?

Absolutely. The rongeur features a specialized cupped, serrated, and fenestrated tip. This unique configuration is optimized for:

  • Effective debulking: Removing bone structures like the vertebral arch.
  • Precision: Maintaining the integrity of surrounding disc structures while performing laminectomies and discectomies.
Is the handle design ergonomic for long procedures?

Yes, the instrument utilizes a finger ring handle design. This is crafted to provide:

  • An effective, secure grip.
  • Superior manual control and ease of operation during complex, delicate orthopedic spinal procedures.
Is this instrument made of high-quality, durable materials?

The Sklar Caspar Rongeur is constructed from high-grade stainless steel. This material choice ensures the instrument’s longevity and durability, making it fully suitable for the repeated reuse cycles required in a surgical environment.

Does this tool meet important regulatory standards?

Yes, this instrument is TAA compliant. Furthermore, it is manufactured without the use of natural rubber latex, ensuring it is safe for use in clinical settings where latex sensitivities may be a concern.

Is this the correct tool for spinal procedures?

This instrument is purpose-built for orthopedic and spinal surgeries. It is particularly effective for procedures that require bone removal, such as:

  • Laminectomies
  • Discectomies
Does the upward angle help in deep surgical access?

The upward-angled configuration is designed to provide better access and visualization during specific vertebral procedures. This geometry allows the surgeon to perform bone removal effectively while navigating the anatomical challenges of the spinal column.

Are there specific maintenance requirements for the detachable parts?

Because the instrument is reusable, it should be processed according to standard hospital protocols for surgical steel instruments. The primary maintenance advantage is that the detachable shaft allows you to reach hidden surfaces that are often difficult to clean on non-detachable models.
