Description

The Sklar Blue Steiner-Auvard Weighted Vaginal Speculum is a single end vaginal speculum commonly used in OB/GYN procedures such as vaginal hysterectomy or dilation and curettage. This speculum features extra long blades, measuring 5-1/2" x 1-1/4". It is weighted with a medium, 2-1/2 lb. weight. Sklar Blue electrosurgical instruments feature high quality stainless steel with an insulated coating. This safe coating prevents radio frequency currents from being transmitted through the instrument which reduces the burning of non-targeted tissue. Sklar Blue instruments are fully autoclavable and may also be cleaned ultrasonically. All Sklar Blue coated instruments comply with biological testing requirements for cytotoxicity, sensitization regulatory, and ISO 10993 requirements. They also comply with the Pre-Vacuum and Gravity Cycle Steam Sterilization Validation of ANSI/AAMI ST79. Sklar Blue electrosurgical coatings are guaranteed for one year against manufacturing defects. This product has a loop to hold and direct disposable smoke evacuation tubing.

Frequently asked questions

How does the blue coating protect patients?

The Sklar Blue insulated coating acts as a vital safety barrier. It prevents the transmission of radio frequency (RF) currents during electrosurgical procedures, significantly reducing the risk of accidental thermal injury to non-targeted tissue.

Is this suitable for complex pelvic surgeries?

Yes, this instrument is specifically designed for demanding OB/GYN environments. It features extra-long blades (5-1/2 inches long by 1-1/4 inches wide) that ensure superior visualization and access during complex procedures like vaginal hysterectomies.

Does the weight provide hands-free stability?

Absolutely. The speculum comes with a medium 2.5 lb weight, which is precisely balanced to maintain stable positioning. This design minimizes the need for continuous manual adjustment, allowing for improved hands-free operative control.

Is this instrument compatible with ultrasonic cleaning?

It is fully compatible with professional reprocessing standards. The speculum is both fully autoclavable and suitable for ultrasonic cleaning, ensuring it can be reliably maintained for long-term reuse.

Does this meet standard medical regulatory requirements?

This speculum adheres to rigorous safety and quality benchmarks, including:
- Biological Testing: Passes cytotoxicity and sensitization requirements.
- ISO Standards: Complies with ISO 10993.
- Sterilization: Validated for Pre-Vacuum and Gravity Cycle Steam Sterilization (ANSI/AAMI ST79).

Is there a way to manage smoke evacuation tubing?

Yes, the design incorporates a specialized integrated loop. This feature allows you to securely attach and direct your disposable smoke evacuation tubing, helping to keep your surgical field clear and organized.

Is the material safe for sensitive patients?

Yes, patient safety is a priority. The instrument is constructed from high-quality stainless steel and is explicitly not made with natural rubber latex, which helps prevent allergic reactions in sensitive patients.

How reliable is the protective coating over time?

The Sklar Blue insulated coating is built for clinical durability. It is backed by a one-year guarantee against manufacturing defects, while the high-quality stainless steel structure of the speculum itself carries a lifetime guarantee.

Is this speculum ideal for D&C procedures?

It is an excellent choice for D&C procedures. The combination of the weighted base for stability and the long blade length provides the consistent, reliable exposure required for specialized gynecological exams and surgeries.

Can this work with other electrosurgical tools?

It is perfectly suited for use alongside other equipment. Because it is part of the Sklar Blue family, its insulation properties are consistent with other Sklar Blue electrosurgical instrumentation, ensuring a cohesive safety profile in your operating room.
