Description

Sklar Blue Sims Vaginal Retractor is a handheld retractor used primarily for vaginal retraction and exposure in electrosurgical procedures. Sklar Blue electrosurgical instruments feature an insulated coating that prevents radio frequency currents from being transmitted through the instrument which reduces the burning of non-targeted tissue. This retractor is available as a single or double-ended instrument with the blades always curved at right angles. This product is double-ended. The blades are curved at right angles, facing the same direction but are two different lengths. Commonly, one blade is inserted into the vagina, and by using either the middle section or opposite blade, the user retracts the anterior wall so that the posterior wall can be viewed. The blade is trough shaped, which serves to catch and drain blood or fluid that may exit the surgical site. This product is a medium Sims retractor. There is no smoke evacuation loop or tubing.

Sklar Blue instruments are fully autoclavable and may also be cleaned ultrasonically. All Sklar Blue coated instruments comply with biological testing requirements for cytotoxicity, sensitization regulatory, and ISO 10993 requirements. They also comply with the Pre-Vacuum and Gravity Cycle Steam Sterilization Validation of ANSI/AAMI ST79. Sklar Blue electrosurgical coatings are guaranteed for one year against manufacturing defects.

Frequently asked questions

Does the insulation effectively protect non-targeted tissue?

Yes. The Sklar Blue insulated coating is specifically engineered to block the transmission of radio frequency (RF) currents. This critical feature helps safeguard adjacent tissues from unintended thermal injuries that can occur during electrosurgical procedures.

Is the double-ended design helpful for complex retraction?

Absolutely. The double-ended configuration provides significant versatility for surgical maneuvers:

  • Two different blade lengths: Allows for specific, adaptive retraction depths.
  • Versatile utility: Typically used to anchor on one side while retracting the anterior wall to clearly visualize the posterior wall.
Does the blade design manage surgical fluids effectively?

Yes, the blades feature a trough-shaped profile. This intentional design helps catch and drain blood and other surgical fluids away from the operative field, maintaining better visibility throughout the procedure.

Is this instrument safe for steam sterilization?

Yes, it is fully compatible with standard sterilization protocols. The instrument is:

  • Fully autoclavable.
  • Safe for ultrasonic cleaning.
  • Compliant with ANSI/AAMI ST79 steam sterilization validation requirements.
Is the instrument constructed from latex-free materials?

Yes. The Sklar Blue Electrosurgical Sims Vaginal Retractor is not made with natural rubber latex, making it a suitable option for environments where latex sensitivity is a concern.

Does this device comply with key medical safety standards?

It adheres to rigorous industry standards to ensure performance and safety:

  • ISO 10993: Complies with biological testing requirements.
  • ANSI/AAMI ST79: Adheres to steam sterilization validation requirements.
  • TAA Compliant: Meets Trade Agreements Act standards.
Are the working edges designed for tissue safety?

Yes. The retractor features smooth working edges and blunt tips. These design elements are specifically chosen to minimize trauma and ensure safe manipulation of delicate tissue during gynecological or proctological procedures.

Is this durable enough for frequent, daily use?

The instrument is built for high durability using professional-grade stainless steel. Because it is a reusable surgical tool designed to withstand repeated autoclave cycles and ultrasonic cleaning, it is engineered for long-term, reliable use in clinical settings.

How do the trough-shaped blades aid in visualization?

By effectively directing fluids away from the surgical site, the trough-shaped blades prevent the pooling of blood or irrigation fluids. This results in a clearer, unobstructed view of the operative area, which is essential for successful electrosurgical operations.

Can this be used for precise electrosurgical operations?

Yes, it is specifically engineered for that purpose. The combination of its stainless steel core and non-conductive Sklar Blue coating allows for precise tissue manipulation while actively reducing the risk of electrical scatter and thermal injury to surrounding areas.
