Description

Sklar Schroeder-Braun tenaculum forceps are a ratcheted, finger ring instrument commonly used in OB/GYN procedures involving manipulation of the cervix or uterus, most commonly D&C, and vaginal or abdominal hysterectomy. They are also used to grasp, hold, and move vessels and arteries during surgical procedures. The tips of the Schroeder-Braun tenaculum forceps have two flattened prong tips that angle inward at 90 degrees. The prongs overlap, providing a strong hold on the tissue, but are also traumatic to tissue. Sklar Blue electrosurgical instruments have an insulated coating to prevent radio frequency currents from being transmitted through the instrument - thereby reducing burning of non-targeted tissues. Sklar Blue instruments are fully autoclavable and may also be cleaned ultrasonically.

Frequently asked questions

Does the insulation effectively prevent accidental tissue burns?

Yes. The Sklar Blue line features a specialized non-conductive coating specifically engineered to insulate against radio frequency (RF) currents, which significantly minimizes the risk of unintended thermal injury to non-targeted surrounding tissues during electrosurgical procedures.

How secure is the grip during tissue manipulation?

The forceps are designed for high-security grasping through two primary features:

  • Braun-style flat tips: These feature 1x1 sharp prongs that angle inward at 90 degrees and overlap for a firm, locked hold.
  • Ratchet mechanism: The finger ring handle includes a secure ratchet that allows the surgeon to lock the instrument in place once the desired grip is achieved.
Can this instrument withstand frequent autoclave sterilization?

Yes, this instrument is constructed from durable stainless steel and is fully autoclavable. It is designed for repeated clinical use and is also compatible with ultrasonic cleaning methods to ensure proper maintenance and longevity.

Is this instrument compatible with CensiTrac tracking systems?

Yes, this specific model is CensiTrac marked, allowing it to be seamlessly integrated into facility-wide instrument tracking and management systems for enhanced inventory and sterilization oversight.

Is the material safe for patients with latex sensitivities?

Absolutely. This surgical instrument is not made with natural rubber latex, making it a safe choice for patients with latex allergies or sensitivities.

Does this meet government procurement or compliance standards?

Yes, this instrument is TAA compliant, meeting the necessary procurement standards often required for government-related medical contracts and facilities.

What is the primary surgical application for this specific style?

While versatile enough for controlling vessels, these forceps are specifically designed for OB/GYN procedures. They are highly effective for:

  • Cervical manipulation
  • Uterine stabilization
  • D&C (Dilation and Curettage) procedures
  • Hysterectomies
Is the instrument delivered ready for immediate sterile use?

No, this instrument is sold non-sterile. Like most precision surgical tools, it must be thoroughly cleaned and processed according to your facility’s sterilization protocols prior to its first use in surgery.

How long is the warranty coverage for this instrument?

This Sklar surgical instrument is backed by a lifetime warranty, reflecting the high-quality craftsmanship and durability expected of the Sklar Blue product line.

Are the tips designed for delicate tissue handling?

These Braun-style tips are engineered for a strong, secure hold during demanding procedures. Because the 90-degree angled prongs are designed to grasp firmly, they are considered effective for manipulation, though the manufacturer notes that this design may be considered traumatic to very delicate tissue.
