Description

The Sklar Blue Pederson Vaginal Speculum is used for electrosurgical gynecological procedures, such as LEEP. It is a double blade duckbill speculum inserted with the blades closed. The blades are then opened by an external lever and screw. The blades of the Pederson Speculum are more narrow than the blades of the Graves Speculum. The practitioner can best determine which type and size speculum is most appropriate for the patient. The Sklar Blue Graves Vaginal Speculum is available with a permanent smoke evacuation tube, a loop for disposable smoke evacuation tubing, or no smoke evacuation. Sklar Blue electrosurgical instruments feature high quality stainless steel with an insulated coating. This safe coating prevents radio frequency currents from being transmitted through the instrument which reduces the burning of non-targeted tissue. Sklar Blue instruments are fully autoclavable and may also be cleaned ultrasonically. All Sklar Blue coated instruments comply with biological testing requirements for cytotoxicity, sensitization regulatory, and ISO 10993 requirements. They also comply with the Pre-Vacuum and Gravity Cycle Steam Sterilization Validation of ANSI/AAMI ST79. This product is a small sized speculum with 3" X 1/2" blades. There is no smoke evacuation device.

Frequently asked questions

Does the blue coating offer specific safety benefits?

Yes, the vibrant blue finish represents a high-quality insulated coating. This is critical for electrosurgical safety as it prevents the transmission of radio frequency currents to non-targeted tissue, significantly reducing the risk of accidental burns during procedures like LEEP.

Is this speculum durable enough for repeated clinical use?

Absolutely. This instrument is constructed from high-quality stainless steel designed for longevity. It is fully reusable, autoclavable, and compatible with ultrasonic cleaning methods, ensuring it stands up to the rigors of a busy clinical environment.

How does the Pederson design compare to a Graves speculum?

The Pederson blade design features a narrower profile than the standard Graves speculum. This specific anatomy is highly beneficial for practitioners who need a more comfortable fit for patients requiring a smaller blade width.

Can I achieve precise positioning with this instrument?

Yes, the speculum is equipped with an external lever and screw mechanism. This allows for smooth, controlled opening and exact adjustment, ensuring the blades remain securely in the desired position throughout the examination or procedure.

Are there any concerns regarding latex allergies?

No, you can use this with confidence. The Sklar Blue speculum is guaranteed to be not made with natural rubber latex, making it safe for patients with latex sensitivities.

Does this speculum meet professional medical standards?

Yes, it adheres to rigorous industry benchmarks:

  • ISO 10993: Complies with biological testing requirements (cytotoxicity and sensitization).
  • ANSI/AAMI ST79: Validated for both Pre-Vacuum and Gravity Cycle steam sterilization.
Is this model suitable for procedures involving smoke evacuation?

This specific variant is configured without a smoke evacuation tube or loops. It is designed specifically for electrosurgical applications where integrated smoke management systems are not required.

What are the exact dimensions of the small blade?

The blades on this small-sized model measure 3 inches in length by 1/2 inch in width, providing a precise fit for smaller anatomical requirements.

Is the blue coating durable against sterilization cycles?

Yes, the Sklar Blue insulated coating is engineered to be fully autoclavable. It is designed to maintain its protective properties and aesthetic integrity even after repeated exposure to standard steam sterilization validation protocols.

What is the primary benefit of the Sklar Blue series in a sterile field?

Beyond its electrosurgical safety, the distinctive royal blue finish serves a practical purpose in the operating room. It aids in visual differentiation, allowing staff to quickly identify the instrument among other standard stainless steel tools in a busy sterile field.
